Loose teeth with braces on?

hi.

i got my braces on a little more then a week ago. my front tooth is SO loose! it wiggles! what is this?

Loose teeth with braces on?
Oh my god LOL.. I went back to my orthodontist because one of my teeth was wobbling a few months after I got them on, I thought it would fall out!! He reassured although it wobbles, it will not fall out. The teeth wobble as they move into new positions. There is absolutely nothing to worry about. A while later my tooth settled and I finally believed him! LOL I understand how you feel, I went through exactly the same thing. I remember crying about it thinking it would fall out and it was all a waste and how ugly it would look and...... LOL It's all good!!!!
Reply:Braces usually make your teeth loose, thats what they do- they move your teeth around. It probably feels like it is wiggling a lot more than it really is.I would stop wiggling it for sure.
Reply:This feeling of the teeth being loose is normal because the bone around the teeth is constantly breaking down and then rebuilding because of the pulling and pushing forces of the braces. This bone absorbtion and reasorbtion is what allows the teeth to shift into their position. A major concern which is sometimes over looked by orthodontists is abnormal root absorbtion of the actual teeth being shifted. That means that the roots of your teeth are slowly being deterirated by the forces of the braces. To prevent this ask you dentist for regular check up x-rays to monitor your roots of your teeth..this most commonly occurs to the front teeth both top and bottom. This imposes a serious problem if it does happen because the roots of your teeth is what keeps your teeth anchored in the bone. I wouldnt worry but it is always good to know the risk of having braces so just be preventative and get regular x-rays.
Reply:It's normal to feel that way ..... and to have that problem . Buts its ok . Your gums are really really loose and that's why your teeth are a loose . But next week there not going to feel that way . If you think you should go to a dentist or orthodontist then do so . Because in ways it mite not be the way we are thinking it is ... like when we got ours on . I hope this helps

Gap in my teeth w/ braces??

I am getting my braces off in exactly a week (well, that's what the ortho said). I have a gap between my canine tooth and the one in front of it. I do not wear elastics and I don't currently have a power chain... and the gap just started appearing a couple weeks ago... Will I still get my braces off? The gap is noticeable, but its not huge. Could the retainer fix it? Also, would pushing the two brackets together help?? I really want to get my braces off!

Thanks in advance

Gap in my teeth w/ braces??
I would recommend you put a call in to your Orthodontist before your next appointment, just to make sure that space is something he can or cannot work with. He may decide to put the power chains back on, but it is hard to know exactly what he might think. Some small movements can be done with retainers but I doubt he would want to have you start off that way. That space could become a problem with packing food in that area if you were to get the braces off and the space left "as is". Trying to push it closed wouldn't help, it would need the constant pressure of the power chain to keep it closed. Best of luck, hope it all works out for you
Reply:I'm sure they wouldn't take off your braces with a gap between your teeth. It doesn't take very long to close a gap, they just tighten those two a lot more. Does your ortho know about it? You don't want to have that after you get them off, because then there isn't much you can do about it afterward.
Reply:Yes. The retainers can take care of it, if worn and are adjusted as directed.
Reply:My son had the same thing happen

The ortho said it is there to give a tiny bit of shift room for the teeth.

My son no longer has a gap
Reply:OMG!! I have the same problem! i get my braces off on Tuesday, and I'm wondering the same thing as you. I had my braces for 2 yrs, and i'm psyched yet doubting I'll get them off now. I would say to bring it up before they take em off...that' what Ima do

Teeth after braces?

I wear my retainer like the dentist says and have had my brace removed like 1 month ago, but can feel pressure on one of my teeth (even wen am nt wearin the retainer) is this normal?

Teeth after braces?
i'm second
Reply:yes
Reply:ask the dentist
Reply:I got my braces off about 3weeks ago. and i haven't had any pressure on any of my teeth. It may be a cavity or somehting. But i dont think it has anything to do with getting your braces off.
Reply:You need to wear your retainer faithfully - otherwise, your teeth will begin to move back to the way they were before you got your braces on.

It is normal, if you are not wearing it regularly - your teeth are moving.
Reply:yes
Reply:is it being pushed by another tooth? mayb its just the retainer moving ur teeth a little, or ur tooth is moving back, ask the ortho, he/she will no!!!!!!
Reply:Well i only felt that with a retainer because my teeth had moved during a week i forgot to wear them. Now they have moved a bit but not THAT badly. Go to see your orthodontist.
Reply:yeah, your teeth are naturally going to shift a little into more "comfortable" positions. as long as you are still wearing the retainer when you're supposed to, they won't shift enough to make a difference visually, they'll just settle into more permanent places
Reply:completely your tooth is not used to only having the support of your other teeth it'll get used to it soon i had it for about 4 days dont worry smoothies are good ;)
Reply:are you only wearing it at night? when you put it in after not having it in all day you teeth are just going back to where they should be. they move alot in the first few days without the braces, so be sure you always wear it!

if you're not wearing it at night yet, and it continues, there could be a problem with the retainer. call you orthodontist if it keeps bothering you. =D
Reply:yes but you should talk to your orthodontist... you may need a permanant retainer. I have one and I don't even notice it at all...its on the back of your teeth

How do you get the calcium and YELLOW stains off after you get Braces off your teeth?

Iam really upset, my son just got his top braces off today and has stains on his teeth taht are white specs and also YELLOW...I know thw white are calcium,, but what about the yellow discoloring on his teeth? Hes only 12 and has had them for about 2 yrs...He did brush good..Will these stains come out??

The orthodontist gave him some floride to take home and put in his retainer and leave it in all night..

The ortho didnt really say if they can come out..Please help, Iamm worried...Thanks

How do you get the calcium and YELLOW stains off after you get Braces off your teeth?
i think and hope it comes off naturally

2 years!!

i think you need to take him to the hygienist to check any staining and to scrape the stuff off the teeth
Reply:white strips worked for me :]
Reply:see a dentist.
Reply:the orthadontist cleaned mine and they were fine.

they may sort out soon enough, i still had the glue on them for ages.

x
Reply:the stains can come out. buy a good whitening kit. they do work if you get the right kind
Reply:It's pretty much impossible to do an excellent job with brushing your teeth when you have braces- thus resulting in some staining when they come off. How awful when you just spent so much money on braces! Don't worry- these do come off over time, now that a toothbrush will actually REACH those places.

First of all, take him to a regular dentist for a thorough teeth cleaning. Buy some whitening toothpaste and have him brush with that. Go ahead and try some white strips or even just use a peroxide mouthwash or baking soda on the teeth. They will be looking great before you know it.
Reply:heve the dentist polish them
Reply:Try brushing with baking soda............Or............Zoom......... case you don't know this it's teeth bleaching that the dentist does..........At least your sons teeth weren't a grayish color after removing his braces.........perhaps he didn't wear the metal ones. Anyway, give it a try.
Reply:i just got my braces on and thye showed me a video about how to keep my teeth clean.and it said that if you brush good enough the glue would turn clear and spots would not be left behind.my glue around the bracket was yello for about a week but i brushed good an dnow its clear.so i guess he didnt brush well enough.same thing happend to my sister and it eventualyll wore off because she used alot of mouth wash.
Reply:I used to have braces and I smoke, so when my braces was removed I had stained teeth. I ordered a box of whitening strips online (not Crest and not commercially available in the market) and it worked. My teeth is a whole lot whiter now than it was before. If you'd like to know more you can message me.

Sensetive teeth after braces?

I just got my braces off and when i drink or eat anything cold one of my top molars throbs but is basically fine otherwise. I am worried that because it is only one tooth i may have a cavity, or if it's just cuz its been covered for so long and is expected after getting braces off.

Sensetive teeth after braces?
Go back to the dentist and get an xray.
Reply:Crest sells sensitive toothpaste, and after about a week of using it, your teeth are less sensitive to cold/hot foods. You could try that.
Reply:If your teeth are sensitive you may need a tooth paste such as for this problem. There are many different kinds on the market.

Do you know how long I will have to have my braces in I'm 14 with perly white teeth?

I'm 14 with pretty teeth meaning I have white teeth. But I need braces because my teeth are over laping

Do you know how long I will have to have my braces in I'm 14 with perly white teeth?
Overlapping as in an overbite? I had an overbite and got braces put on. I got them in 6th grade and didn't get them off until I was a sophomore in high school! I had them for 5 years! And my teeth were not that bad at all, I just had a pretty bad overbite that they were trying to correct.

Also my orthodontist was always saying "next month and you will get them off!" He said that for years! Some people have them for a year or so, and some people have them for many years, like me! It just depends on how bad of an overbite you have.
Reply:braces don't affect the color of your teeth....so the fact that your teeth are white is irrelavent. depending on how crooked your teeth are and how often you go to get the wires tightened it could take anywhere from a year to possibly 3
Reply:2-3 years. sucks, i know, but at least they will be straight once you are in your late teens. trust me, it's worth it!
Reply:if you dont have them yet ask your dentist if you can get the invisaline they are just a form of your teeth instead of the wire braces..sometimes the wire braces give you stains on your teeth after they are taken off...most of the time you can have them for 4 years or so.
Reply:It depends on the severity of your teeth, my daughter has a underbite and she has to have hers on for at least 2 years she is 15. Don't worry hun you will have nice teeth when it is all done with.

Painful Teeth After Braces Removed??

How come I have more tooth sensitivity after my braces have been removed?

Painful Teeth After Braces Removed??
your teeth arent used to it

make sure you wear your retainer it helps and keeps your teeth in place
Reply:It is common. It will pass.
Reply:Braces move your teeth constantly while they're on, the brackets cover a good majority of the tooth. It's only natural for your teeth to be sensitive--give it a week or two-it'll take some time to get your teeth accustomed to being "free' again. Trust me-it's normal:)
Reply:That is normal because most of your tooth was covered by the bracket while you has braces. Your tooth was used to being protected. Also, when I had my braces taken off, it hurt a lot to brush my teeth because my gums where sensitive. Make sure to use a toothbrush with soft bristles and to go easy on your mouth while you brush.

Honey how old are you because your English and typing stinks! I am sorry that your teeth/gums hurt. Rinse with salt water and brush and floss 2 times a day. Eventually it will get better. Probably in a week. Braces are rough.

Teeth/ braces......?

ok...do braces hurt?

Teeth/ braces......?
I had a removable brace first. It didn't hurt but was messy as the plate which is attatched to the roof of your mouth gets filled up with food when you eat .. yuk.. so you need to scrub it with a spare toothbrush after eating.

I later had train tracks braces. They feel like someone is applying pressure to your teeth when they are fitted. About an hour later they will start to ache. I took painkillers everything I got mine fitted/repaired/tightened. Eat soup for the first day you get it fitted until the achiness stops. The day after having it fitted/repaired/tightened. it felt like pulled muscles in your mouth (weird hey ! )

You will probably get blisters on the inside of your lips from the rubbing of the "train track" blocks. I used to get some special wax from my orthodontist to rub on the tooth blocks and this stopped the rubbing. Train tracks need not be a bore. Mine were funky as you can choose what colour bands you have.. Don't worry these pains should be over and done with in about a day or so.
Reply:Getting them on hurts a lot, an hour or so after you get them on though...I was crying (partly because i didn't want them AT ALL!) then it hurts for 2-4 days, and then it calms down. But it hurts to the point where i couldn't physically eat other than like soup or swallowing pasta whole.

Then when you get them tightened you've already felt the pain before so it's not AS bad, it's still painful but it's not like drastically bad. Just take lots of painkiller. But it does hurt, just not as much as you probably expect, but it does hurt a lot.

Then like if you got teeth out at the sides like i did, then when they close up the gap then that doesn't hurt, i had it done for the 2nd time yesterday and i can't notice a difference!

If you're getting them then good luck! They're over sooner than you know.. i hope.

I've had mine for like 8 months and it feels like 8 weeks. No joke. But don't worry it's really not as bad as you think it is, it sounds worse than it is.

Overall, they are SO worth it. I mean think of how straight your teeth will be!
Reply:As soon as you get them on, they don't hurt. It feels very weird, but doesn't hurt. Then about an hour later, they hurt very bad.

They hurt like this for about a week. Then when your next appointment is you'll probably get your braces tightened and they'll hurt for a week again.

If you get a permanent retainer or rubber bands also, they hurt even worse.

*My advice = braces suck.

If my wisdom teeth do not bother me would I still have to get them out before I get braces on my teeth?

Because I want to get braces and I went to the doctor yesterday and they told me that I need to get my wisdom teeth out first, but they do not bother me ever!!! so why would I have to get them out if they do not hurt. I have went to the orthodontist yet, so i will see what they will tell me.

If my wisdom teeth do not bother me would I still have to get them out before I get braces on my teeth?
You should have your wisdom teeth removed first. I didn't and I wore braces for 3 years. After my braces were taken off, my wisdom teeth started to grow in and re-crowded my teeth all over again. I had them removed later, but now it doesn't even look like I even wore braces! You should get them removed now so that all the progress you will have with your braces won't be reversed as it was with me. :(
Reply:You need the room!
Reply:It is much better to have your wisdom teeth taken out early. They may bother you some day. It will be much harder if you wait. I had my wisdom teeth removed before braces. It's ok. You will get through it. I don't regret it. My husband who is almost 40 hasn't had his wisdom teeth out but needs to. I stay on him but... His wisdom teeth are now impacted. It's going to be painful.

You are young. It won't be so bad. You'll heal quick and be all set. Your dentist knows when it's time.
Reply:lol get them out ive had my braces for ten years so far...not cuz of wisdom teeth though but still do whatever they tell you cuz if you don't you might regret it
Reply:Considering that wisdom teeth has a nasty habit of starting to come in and going back in and over and over........and most people don't really have room for them, then you should probably get them out. With braces moving your teeth to straighten them, it's hard telling what will happen. It's not that bad to have done. I got one pulled first because I'd heard all the horror stories, but when that went so well, I had the other 3 done at the same time and within an hour after having it done, I was eating chicken! True story! It's not the most pleasant thing to go thru, but it certainly isn't the worst either. And, best to have it done now rather than have them start to bother you in the middle of getting your teeth straightened!

Lol..

I HAD braces.

When you get your elastics on, yeah it might hurt..

You can't do anything about it Lol.

Try sleeping, because you'll just forget about the pain.

And, remember.. This'll all be over, and you'll

HAVE STRAIGHT TEETH. ^^
Reply:you know, you could adjust those things, did your dentist tell you?maybe when you see your dentist again he will fix this for you. hang in there.i know someone who had the rubber bands too and once he was in class when he yawned one of his rubberbands broke loose and flew out of his mouth. lol.
Reply:its usual for your mouth to hurt, just give it a while and you'll get used to it; but if you dont, you can explain it to your orthodontist, and he might make them more loose.
Reply:ok I am going to be honest. I never wore my rubber bands and my orthodontist never notices, and the same thing happened to like three of my friends. If it hurts too much- just take them off.
Reply:Tylenol, Advil, or any number of other anti inflammatories can help immensely.

Also try an oral analgesic, which helps to numb your mouth. Your local drug store should carry these items.

Good luck!

How would it work if i get braces or invisalign for my teeth and i move out of the country afterwards?

I could move to Australia in the next year but i want to get braces for my teeth now. If i get braces here, would i just go to a dentist in australia for a check up?

How would it work if i get braces or invisalign for my teeth and i move out of the country afterwards?
Well, I know if you get Invisalign they give you the entire set at once, and you can pop in the new retainers yourself monthly. There's not as much supervision by your orthodontist with Invisalign like there is with standard braces, so you could just take the retainers with you to Australia.

How do you get your teeth whiter if you have braces?

I have braces and my teeth look like they keep getting yellower! What are some tips to prevent that?

How do you get your teeth whiter if you have braces?
You should try brushing your teeth with a baking soda, table salt and water mixture. I dont' know how, but it works!
Reply:Wait until your braces come off. If you attempt to whiten them now when they come off the spots where the brackets are will be discolored.
Reply:Brush frequently and use a fluoride rinse to keep your teeth from discoloring while you have the braces.

Definitely don't use any kind of bleaching product until you get the braces off, if you get your teeth whiter than the were pre-braces, you'll have yellow spots when they take them off!

How do u keep ur teeth white when u have braces????

braces make ur teeth yellow

How do u keep ur teeth white when u have braces????
Well, first off I would highly recommend a water pic to keep your teeth and gums as clean as possible. Then when you brush your teeth use a whitening toothpaste or even use plain baking soda from the kitchen. It will help.

After your braces come off you can get the real whitening strips to make that perfect smile sparkle !
Reply:mouth wash...proper brushig using an orthodontic brush preferabaly. Any normal would work fine.
Reply:Hehheh...I can't help but chuckle - you want your teeth straight AND white simultaneously? Would you like fries with that? lol

Seriously tho'.... You just have to keep them extra clean. you have GOT to floss around the metal work using a floss threader, which works like a needle and thread and gets floss around the wires. These are available at any drug store or from your dentist or orthodontist.

Brush three times a day, carefully. An electric brush would help - I myself am partial to the Sonicare Elite (which is $140 at the store, but like $90 at some dental offices.) It is clinically proven to work better than other electrics.
Reply:clean them braces when you clean your teeth.(clean um goooooooooood)

AA (Amateurs Advice):

Avoid coffee and red wine as much as possible. Both will quickly stain your teeth.

Raw veggies will clean your teeth so you not only have a healthy snack, you are cleaning your teeth at the same time.

Strawberries have a natural bleaching effect and are loaded with Vitamin C, so you simply can't lose. Rub the pulp over your teeth and then rinse.

Lemon peel massaged over the teeth is often used for whitening. Rinse thoroughly.

Avoid smoking, easier said than done but this is one of the quickest ways of turning white teeth yellow.

Use whitening toothpastes that have the Dental Association seal of approval.

Reply:a very cheap and effective way to do it is to make a paste out of baking soda %26amp; water, then brush it into your teeth as you would with toothpaste. if you want immediate results, let it sit for about 5 minutes then rinse. you can work this in as a daily routine or just do it as you wish.

Hey Yvonne i wear braces to!

I would talk to your dentist about it, he may tell you to contact an orthodotist when you move. Im not sure though :S. But definitatly dont get them removed! Because it will be well worth it when you get them out.

But you should definatly talk to your dentis before you leave he/she will be able to give you the best advice! Good luck on moving.
Reply:You should find another orthodontist in the city that you're moving to. There are plenty of orthodontists in California, so you shouldn't have to worry about finding one.

My dentist said i have to get braces behind my teeth only?

Whats the difference between braces on in front of my teeth or the back of my teeth

My dentist said i have to get braces behind my teeth only?
First of all it's orthodontist not dentist, and second, you can't get brackets on the inside back of your teeth because it would cut up your tung! I think that either your orthodontist is wack...or you worded your question wrong!

MEOWBOW has spoken!
Reply:u could get them on the back of ur teeth

it would scratch ur tongue a LOT

but lots of people get them so u can't see them

Reply:Maybe you misunderstood your orthodontist? I don't think that ANY orthodontist would put the brackens on the back of your teeth. Besides, it'll be too hard to replace brackets or wires. Besides, that would be very uncomfortable!

Why is it necessary to get teeth removed when getting braces?

I have heard about people needing some teeth pulled out prior to getting braces.

And which teeth get pulled out?

Why is this?

Why is it necessary to get teeth removed when getting braces?
If you have to small of a mouth for all of your teeth to fit once your teeth start moving then they need to take some out to make room for the teeth that are moving to get your overbite corrected. They took one my sons teeth from the side on each side of his mouth when they pulled his.
Reply:to get teeth to line up right when the braces are finished their job or you end up having a poor job done
Reply:usually they pull the back teeth. its necessary for the teeth to be pulled because there must be room for the teeth to straighten.
Reply:YOUR ORTHODONTIST MADE A CAREFUL ANALYSIS OF YOUR JAWS AND DETERMINED THAT THERE IS NOT ENOUGH ROOM IF THE FIRST BICUSPIDS STAY IN. THE FIRST BICUSPIDS ARE NOT CRITICAL TO YOUR BITE AS ARE THE MOLARS, ETC.
Reply:Not all people who are getting braces need teeth pulled. If you have a small mouth, then thats a good reason. I had braces years ago %26amp; my teeth really needed them but because my mouth was so small %26amp; in order for my teeth to become straight, they had to pull 4 of my teeth. It was worth it in the end. Although I had them for 4 years! Now, I get alot of compliments of how straight %26amp; nice my teeth look. Hope this helps some!
Reply:Your orthodontist with look at your x rays, pano and cephlo along with your arch size, growth pattern and facial structure to determine if there is enough space in your arch to support all of your teeth. If not he will recommend the bi's be removed and more than likely the 3rd molars, or wisdom teeth later. In some cases the orthodontist may use an appliance called a "palatal expander," this enlarges the palate which "increases the size of the arch," allowing the patient to keep the bi's. This will depend on your individual case, the treatment plan that your orthodontist has developed will take this appliance and many other methods into consideration in determining if you are a candidate for this type of treatment, or which will be the best for you. Your orthodontist will do everything he can to help you maintain all of your teeth if possible. The reason for their removal would be to make space for the remaining teeth to be put in their "correct alignment" with the "upper and lower arch" in their "correct position" or "bite." This being how the upper and lower teeth "rest together" or "interlock" with each other when you close. Trust your orthodontist, I'm sure he will help you attain that perfect smile! Hope I've been of some help and good luck with your orthodontic treatment.

At what age is it appropriate to fit braces to correct teeth?

My daughter is 10. She still has some unchanged teeth. She needs correction by braces for alignment of some teeth

Shall we install now or wait until she is older?

Dentist said we can correct teeth now and later may be we have to do more or problems solved

otherwise he said if we leave it it will be more expensive and takes longer.

please help

At what age is it appropriate to fit braces to correct teeth?
I think that it would be best to wait until she gets most of her permanent teeth. The orthodontist told someone I know that it is best to wait until the patient gets all of her teeth. If she has a pretty good bit of baby teeth still and she gets braces, she will probably have to get braces again later on. I was 5 when I got braces because I had an under bite and wore them for about 4 years. But I had to get them again because my permanent teeth grew in and they were crooked again.
Reply:i would put them on now. the quicker they are on the quicker they are off. braces are really annoying i've had mine for like 4 years and im dying to get them off already . im sure your daughter will want them off as quick as possible too. especially if all her teeth are in id say do it now, when i got mine on all my teeth werent in so it slowed it down a little bit.

Is there any type of braces for wisdom teeth?

I want to keep my wisdom teeth, but they are growing in slightly crooked, are there braces to straighten them?

Is there any type of braces for wisdom teeth?
your wisdom teeth will only mess up the rest of your teeth. they'll grow and push your other teeth together causing them to be crooked.

wisdom teeth often times become infected and need removed.
Reply:I am pretty sure that your wisdom teeth need to come out to prevent overcrowding. See your dentist. Good luck.
Reply:I don't think that a dentist or orthodontis would recommend this, nor would they perform it. Wisdom teeth can cause a number of problems for all your other teeth and your jaw, and American medical practice typically removes them preventatively. Although there is some debate as to whether this is the healthy way to respond to them, as many people keep their wisdom teeth without problems, I doubt you'll find a dentist or orthodontist who would straighten them. They might leave them if they are not impacted (crooked), but since it sounds like yours are, I'll bet they'll want them out.

How is like to have braces on your teeth?

For those of you who wear braces, pls help me by telling me all about it. the good points as well as the bad points. most importantly pls tell me whether it hurts like hell. cos im thinking of correcting my horrible set of teeth.

How is like to have braces on your teeth?
I'm not going to lie- braces are hell.

Personally, I have trouble closing my lips over them. They feel too bulky for my mouth, and collect so much food I could feed a small family with all the food stuck in them at the end of a meal.

When I first got mine on, it hurt SO BAD I can't even begin to describe it. They felt heavy, and bulky, and kept rubbing my cheeks raw. I kept feeling like I needed to brush my teeth- like they were really dirty because of the braces being on them. I couldn't eat much, and I couldn't even brush my teeth because even the slightest touch made them ache. (Used mouthwash for about a week. Very weak substitute, by the way.)

Every time they get adjusted, they hurt for at least 3 days after. Not as bad as when first getting them on, of course.

However, keep the end result in mind. A straight smile is a great thing to have because people really do judge you on the condition of your teeth. A good smile will really polish off your look.
Reply:painful
Reply:Braces hurt a lot at first, but it's totally worth it when you get the end results. What used to hurt me the most was the tighting of the wires. You get used to the pain after a while
Reply:it is kinda weird at first but u get used to it. when u first get them the metal brackets will rub on ur tougue and it is realy painful but they give u this cool numbing stuff that tastes horrible but it sure makes it better for a while and it is pretty fun to play with too.

my advice get them it is way worth it.
Reply:I wear metal braces on the top and invasiline on the bottom.

The only time my teeth hurt is when they tighten/adjust them. It lasts less than a day. You can take a Tylenol or similar if it's that painful.

It's worth it! Just keep thinking about how beautiful your new smile will be!

PS, I'm in my 50's and will get them off next month!
Reply:I had braces for two years. At times it was painful, but not extremely. Tylenol or advil is all you need for pain. The first day when they put them on was nothing, but when I tried to eat it was very painful. Your teeth feel sensitive. I guess its more your jaw then your teeth. It only hurts for a day or so every month after you get them tightened. Luckily I did not have an over bight so I did not wear elastics vertically on my teeth. I did have a lot of crowding on the bottom but it was corrected quickly and not too painfully. You need to be careful when playing sports or ruff housing with you friends. I had the wire pop off a few times and a few brackets too. I would recommend braces. They make you feel so much better about your smile and you will want to smile more often! The pain is not that bad and the pay off is so worth it. Just remember to use lots of chap stick!!

If you don't get braces, will your teeth get worse?

I am unsure of whether I should get braces or not. I'm fine with how my teeth looks right now, but if it gets more crooked, then I might reconsider.

If you don't get braces, will your teeth get worse?
no,they'll stay the same
Reply:no they will stay like there yeah braces hurt sometimes but in 2 years when u get them off and your tetth r straight it feels so good
Reply:No they won't, well they might if new teeth grow in ( if you still have baby teeth)
Reply:Yes, they will.

Im 18yrs old. %26amp;%26amp; I just recently went to the orthodontist, and he told me that when adults have crooked teeth, not only will they become more crooked over time, but eventually you'll have to get dentures bc youre teeth are so crowded its easier for bacteria to grow, and cause tooth decay. i didnt wanna get braces till he told me that.
Reply:depends on the situation as to why you need braces. if there are any missing teeth and they want to bring them closer together then yes, they will cause problems, but just for crowding...it might only get worse if your wisdom teeth try and come in (if they havent already) it could push the teeth. the problem with crooked teeth is that its harder to clean and cna result in more plaque build-up that can lead to problems.

How much maximum time braces takes to straighten the teeth?

I have braces on my teeth from last three years. From last one year my dentist is saying that it will be removed within next six month. But no results. Now he is saying that my case is complicated. In beginnig he said that my treatment duration would be around 2 n half years. Please suggest ,should i go for another dentist.

How much maximum time braces takes to straighten the teeth?
get a second opinion. I have braces, adn the first dentist i went to (just a consult before they were put on) said i would have to have braces for a year and a half, jaw surgery, and then braces for another 2 years. I thought that seemed kind of long, so i went to another dentist and he said i would have to have braces for a year, the surgery, and then probably 8 months of braces after.

ps.its really important to keep your teeth clean!
Reply:I only had mine for 18 months but I've heard people who've had them for 5 years. He should have seen your case a being difficult fron the start. Have you been doing everything he tells you to - exactly how and when and for how long - If you have, I would go to another dentist and get a second opinion.
Reply:I had braces for 7 years. It really depends on how crooked your teeth are. I had to have 4 permanent teeth pulled, a palatal expander, surgery to uncover a tooth and pull it into place, AND wear a hawley bow retainer. And I still got root resorbtion from my teeth moving too fast.

How do people that wear braces brush their teeth?

%26amp; no jokes about leg/back braces I mean teeth.

How do people that wear braces brush their teeth?
with a toothbrush.

its the exact same but you just half to brush a little harder so you get all the crap from around your brackets off.
Reply:i have braces and you would brush them the same way as you do without them.
Reply:the just do, its not as big of a problem as people think. It just takes getting used to. You have to brush a bit lighter I think, and you get an special kind of brush to clean underneath the wire.
Reply:I used to have braces and you get your toothbrush, tilt it so the bristle bit is facing downwards, then brush the top of the brace. Then tilt it so the bristles are facing upwards then brush the bottom of the brace. You can usually purchase special toothbrushes to clean in between the little metal things and behind the wires. Hope this helps xo
Reply:With a toothbrush
Reply:i have braces and u brush them the same way u wld without braces. but indtead of brushin over ur teeth u hav 2 also \\brush un der the braces and ur gums to prevnt them from getting swollen
Reply:well i move in small circles over each tooth for about 10 seconds(mostly near the gums) then i brush the inside back and forth...i also brush my tongue and the roof of my mouth, my dentist gave me booklets that explains everything...i also floss between each tooth...it takes a while but ill appreciate it in the long run! =)

At what time is it appropriate to fit braces to correct teeth?

My daughter is 10. She still has some unchanged teeth. She needs correction by braces for alignment of some teeth

Shall we install now or wait until she is older?

Dentist said we can correct teeth now and later may be we have to do more or problems solved

otherwise he said if we leave it it will be more expensive and takes longer.

please help

At what time is it appropriate to fit braces to correct teeth?
I would wait till she is 12 by then her teeth

will be ready for them.If you start to early

the longer she will need them.Adults now days wear braces to straight them.
Reply:I would wait until shes 12 or 13
Reply:i think you should make her get them now because most teenagers don't like braces so they rather get them off sooner.
Reply:About that age sounds right
Reply:It is best to take care of her teeth right now. Because not only does she want to get done with braces at a younger age, but it is also because her teeth are moving right now.. As she gets older it will take longer for her braces to take effect. If you get her braces right now, the teeth are moving naturally so by the time she is done with it, she will have natural straight teeth.

Good luck.

Does it hurt when the Orthodontist puts braces on your teeth?

I have very sensitive teeth so I want to know...Also, how do they attach the braces to the teeth? Do they glue them on or something or do anythign to the tooth?

Does it hurt when the Orthodontist puts braces on your teeth?
They use cement to bond a metal brace to you teeth. A wire is placed to go through all of the braces in your teeth. If you have teeth that have spaces between them, you may feel some pain AFTERWARDS. This is because the wire is tight, and forcing the teeth to come together, thus eliminating the spaces between your teeth. You may experience cuts on your gums, which is normal, so I would recommand using wax. Wax should have been given to you during your visit to the orthodontist. You place the wax over the braces to smooth out the surfaces of the rugged brace, and your mouth will feel so much better!

When you first get braces on, it may hurt a bit, but not too much. During meals the week after you get braces, your teeth may feel tender and sensitive. I recommend eating foods such as soup, that are soft and don't require much chewing.

However, when your orthodontist gives you a CHAIN, which is like the bands that are around your braces, linked together. These chains, are used for larger gaps in your mouth. This will cause discomfort, but should go away in about a week. When you get rubber bands for your teeth (that go from an upper brace to a lower brace) you may feel some discomfort the first hour our two, but the pain should go away pretty quickly.

Good luck!
Reply:Actually putting on the braces doesn't hurt. You will be sore when your teeth start moving into the right places after a while, but that's a good thing. It means they're working. And it's more of an annoying pain, not an intense pain.
Reply:it hurts when he puts this thing in ur mouth so ur mouth will b like wide so its easyer to glue the braces on and when u get the wire ur teeth will hurt for like a week to 2 weeks
Reply:They are suppoede to be sore because you have a wire on.
Reply:no it doesn't hurt....but take an advil or tylenol before going cause it may hurt....it hurts after.....eat soft foods and cold also....
Reply:They will hurt for about a week after. Th.y put some kind of glue that dries with some neon light thingie. I suggest taking an advil right before or orthodontist puts them on, that way it'll kick in when he's done and you're starting to feel them.

And for every month when you get them tightened, I suggest for lunch and dinner having a smoothie, soup, mashed potatoes, potato salad, spaghetti with no meatballs, macaroni and cheese, rice and gravy, and pudding. Your teeth will be a little sore.

My orthodontist said that if my teeth ever shifted due to my mouth growing I'd have to get braces again, do I?

I am 22, I got braces when I was 15 and they were taken off when I was 17. I barely wore my retainers after they were taken off and now they've shifted a bit and I'd like to try braces again. My retainers do not fit now and so I asked if I should get another set made or if I could just get braces again... he said that some peoples teeth have a natural alignment they may shift towards.

Can I push it and just ask him to give me braces again? 2 teeth have been pushed back on top and my bottom teeth stick up in the middle.

My orthodontist said that if my teeth ever shifted due to my mouth growing I'd have to get braces again, do I?
Get the clear retainers you wear all the time. You go to the ortho once every few weeks just like if you had braces to have it adjusted. I think it's called invsi line? A good alternative to braces, and a lot more convenient.

If you had a life time warrenty he should do what needs to be done for FREE!
Reply:My teeth have shifted too. And i just keep wearing my retainers to make them go back to normal ((like they were after tthe braces were off)).

Just so that it itsnt so expensive for you ((if you are tight on money)) I would just get a new mold of a retainer made.

However, since you said your teeth have moved drastically it would be a better option to just get braces all over again...

I think I need braces because my teeth are all wonkey, but my dentist keeps saying I don't,what shall i do

I need braces badly I think. I'm 14, my teeth are going a bit wonkey and I think they are the way to go. My dentist says I dont though. shall I flash my money at him? That makes any NHS worker say yes?

Any other ideas, except new dentist, not allowed

Dentist or orthodontist ???

dentists don't deal with braces. You should get a second opinion from a practicing orthodontist .

I have braces on both top and bottom teeth, because my teeth were reasly bad, but I have a friend who is getting them and her case is not bad at all. But she still needs them
Reply:Trust me, if you needed braces- your dentist would see dollar signs %26amp; put them on. Apparently you're probably being self conscious.
Reply:if you think you need braces then ye, go nag your dentist, u dont need to pay for them, there free for u,

most cases take an adult with you, that'll help, dentist will listen

I need these braces off my teeth!!!!!?

Ok, I'm not a teenager, and I'm not a complete idiot. So, no idiotic answers.

I've had my braces on for over 3 years. Things happened, and I couldn't make my payments anymore. I owe the orthdontist money. My questions are... is he still responsible for taking them off? Will he make me pay what I owe first? And will he charge me to take them off?? I am scared they are going to end up causing problems with my teeth, if they're not removed!

I need these braces off my teeth!!!!!?
if you havent paid your bills im pretty certain he'll make you pay before you get them off. I know... go on holidays to Thailand and yet them off cheap cheap.
Reply:i have a friend who has braces, and believe me, i know it can be really IRRITATING at times. i think that if you can't pay for further treatment, then you should take the braces off as fast as possible, even if it means you need to pay. it is better to have disfigured teeth than have really DAMAGED teeth.braces are made up of metal or plastic, so it isn't healthy for you to keep them on for a long time.
Reply:In the office I work in they would make you pay your bill first, But I would call them and try and make a payment arrangement with them or you could try and find a clinic who will provide you with health care based on your income or a free clinic. Either way I would get the braces off ASAP bc it could cause more harm than good.
Reply:he/she should take them off as ormal but u hav 2 repay the money

Can I still put braces in my teeth, after I got them crowned?

I had my two front teeth crown, and would like to have braces as my teeth arnt straight, will the crown be afffected in any way?

Can I still put braces in my teeth, after I got them crowned?
YES, THE CEMENT THEY USE FOR THE BRACKETS WILL ALSO ADHERE TO CROWNED TEETH. IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY BAD EFFECT OF THE CROWNS.
Reply:no that is fine. Orthodontists do it all the time. Preferably you often will do braces before crowns usually. but braces can be joined to the crowns no problem.

Why do we put braces on childrens teeth without a thought?

What was once thought of as something for the wealthy, many more kids are getting braces put on their teeth, and without a thought. Do you not realize that your saying to your child "Your teeth aren't as good as other peoples, so we must fix them". I believe this has a direct impact of their future views about the rest of their body. No one more and more teens are getting their nose and breast worked on.

Why do we put braces on childrens teeth without a thought?
There is a difference between kids that need them, and the kids that don't.

If a person's teeth are too crooked, then they may have problems with their jaws. Seriously. If it's the front teeth and the kids is young enough, they may have pain when there adult molars and wisdom teeth try to grow in. In addition to the pain, if the back teeth don't have room to grow, they can grow into the skin and jaw causing infections, abscesses, etc... There are actual health reasons for braces for kids that need them.

If the child's teeth are just slightly less than straight, then it's more out of vanity. But either way you look at it, it can be a self confidence issue for the child. Telling them to leave their crooked teeth alone isn't any better than having unnecessary braces put on. Either way they may get picked on at school, and feel bad about their own looks.
Reply:We as the parents draw the line at what we feel is reasonable. If one parent thinks that plastic surgery is fine for their child, then that is their decision. If another parent thinks that anything more that hair, clothing, and makeup is far enough, then it's up to them to teach that to their child. Report It

Reply:It's our society and time that makes us feel that we should live up to certain standards of appearance, unfortunately. Report It

Reply:if their teeth are crooked and they are self conscious about it, won't that have a direct impact on their self image?? when someone is talking to you one of the first things you notice are a persons teeth. if you have good looking teeth it boosts your self confidence. did you not get yours done as a kid?? i didn't. parents couldn't afford it. so when i was 42 and had put braces on all 3 of my kids, i did it for myself. one of the best things i ever did.
Reply:Because people are judged by the condition of their teeth.
Reply:Having misaligned teeth is not just a cosmetic issue. It can greatly affect oral health in a number of ways. To imply that giving a kid braces is the reason people get boob and nose jobs is WAY oversimplifying both processes.
Reply:Crooked teeth are ugly. Kids know this. They can also become unhealthy. Why would you want your kid to grow up with an ugly mouth, embarrassed to smile or talk?

Noses and breasts are a personal thing but should wait until they are adults.

c
Reply:Yeah, i think i agree with that especially "boobs" job!
Reply:I had braces when I was a teenager. I had them for 3 years and before that I was traumatised because of the state of my teeth. I never smiled! I am so glad that I had braces, I can't explain. If braces are necessecity then they must be done . They have nothing to do with your breasts and nose!!!

How many teeth usually gets pulled for braces?

If you had braces, how many teeth did you have to get pulled?

How many teeth usually gets pulled for braces?
I had braces twice (didn't wear my retainer after the first time and so my teeth got jacked up again), and didn't have to have any teeth pulled.
Reply:I had braces many years ago and actually no teeth got pulled.

I think it depends on the person and how your teeth are positioned if teeth actually have to be pulled. I would think if there was enough room between them that you wouldn't need any pulled but if they overlap that could be an issue.
Reply:depends on if they even have to remove any, not all people who wear braces is due to impaction causing over crowding.
Reply:Most people do not need any teeth pulled to have braces.
Reply:None.
Reply:I only have to have my wisdom teeth pulled. Unless you have extra teeth in your mouth, that are unneccessary, they'll pull them out.
Reply:i didn't have any teeth pulled
Reply:I had 4 pulled (2 at the top and 2 at the bottom) because I had too many teeth.
Reply:I had two permanent and four baby teeth pulled before getting braces. Everybody says I have a big mouth but my orthodontist said I have a small mouth.

You know who I listened too!
Reply:I didn't have any pulled.

I think they aften pull 4, 6, or 8 teeth.
Reply:I had braces at age 18 and had 4 teeth out. Unfortunately I could not put my retainer back in at age 29, and my bottom one broke, so now they are as bad as they started-and they were bad, oh well. (I wore it every single night for 10 years then one night it would just not go in).
Reply:It really varies from person to person, but also different orthodontists will tell you different things. When I went for my first ortho consult, I was told I will need to have 2 teeth pulled out (overcrowding on top). I didn't like that idea too much, so I went to a different orthodontist and he said nothing about removing teeth. I went with him and now I am a week away from getting my braces off. All my teeth stayed in (I still have all my wisdom teeth too!) and somehow there is room for all of them (no more overcrowding). It's always good to get a second opinion.
Reply:Traditionally, when crowding dictated tooth extractions to make room, the four first permanent premolars were pulled. With early intervention, often extractions can be avoided altogether.
Reply:Most often, but not always, braces are needed because of crowding of the upper an lower teeth. In this case, the 4 first bicuspids, 2 upper and 2 lower, are commonly removed. Toward the end of treatment it is often recommended to have the wisdom teeth removed. Ever case is different so treatment varies.
Reply:I had 4 premolars and 4 wisdom teeth removed. This is very common for people with small mouths and lots of crowding. Wisdom teeth are usually always recommended for removal at the proper age b/c of the risk of them causing crowding to reoccur.
Reply:Most answers already given here are correct. What determines the amount of teeth to be extracted for braces to successfully correct the problem at hand, is determined by taking Xrays and diagnostic impressions so that measurements can be taken and placed into equations that already exist. Kinda like 2x + 4y = 10. The numbers attained by measuing anatomical points on your xrays and casts determine if and/or how many teeth need to be pulled to achieve the desired result.
Reply:before putting on my braces, they had to pull out four of my teeth... two of them every week... all the premolars in my mouth were removed and then I had braces on a week after the last teeth were pulled

What do dental braces do besides straightening teeth?

Braces straighten your teeth, but what else do they do?

Do they help reduce teeth grinding?

Do they help stop gum recession?

Do they help make the gums healthier?

What else can they do besides just straightening?

What do dental braces do besides straightening teeth?
I think they just straighten
Reply:Braces help guide your teeth into a more anatomically correct, and asthetically pleasing position. That is why when you have braces your orthodontist/dentist will require you to come in to have them tightened.

They can help with gum recession around facially or lingually verted teeth, teeth that are pushed out to the front or back. These areas usually have recession around the tooth because they are in an incorrect position. Moving the tooth to the correct position can correct gum recession. But in general, they are not a treatment for gum recession.

The best way to make your gums more healthy is to brush properly at least twice per day, and flossing properly everyday. A good mouth rinse like Crest Pro Health can also help. Ask your dental hygiene the proper way to brush and floss.

A week having fixed orthodontic braces on upper teeth.?

I have had my braces on my upper teeth now for just over 7 days, and I am finding 2 things, firstly one tooth on bottom row is hitting the top but I imagine that is cause they have moved very slightly.

Secondly I find that I feel slight pain when using the top teeth for pulling when attempting to take a small bite, and I wondered if anyone else can remember if they experienced similar symptoms.

A week having fixed orthodontic braces on upper teeth.?
I had braces for about 5 years I only got them off about 2 years ago and I still occasionally have to wear a retainer on my top teeth. And yeah they were pretty sensitive for the first few weeks and sometimes eating was sore. I also used to notice that different teeth hit off other teeth when I'd close my mouth because now that they'd moved a little. You get used to it after a while and you'll see your teeth looking more even within the next few weeks or months.

And yeah it was all worth it now. People tell me I have fabulous teeth and when I look in the mirror I can admire them :)
Reply:All normal.

The top teeth will settle down soon.
Reply:What the first guy said.

Even now, I don't wear my retainer every night, but when I do my teeth hurt and they rest in different places on my bottom teeth than they normally would. Every time you go to get them tightened, they will move and hurt.

The pain is worth a beautiful smile though

=]
Reply:My daughter was on pain killers for about 3 weeks after her braces were fitted. You have to remember that the point of braces is to move your teeth, so they will be a bit painful.

It should settle down and when you get your brace tightened, it will only be a few hours of discomfort each time.
Reply:its very normal. it happens to me for the first few weeks too. your teeth are shifting.

once ur teeth stops shifting and settle down, u will be able to use ur upper teeth to bite a per normal again!

ur orthodontist will see to it the next appointment and correct it.

one kind reminder, do floss ur teeth daily and keep ur teeth clean. this helps to prevent decay teeth and shift ur teeth faster.

:)
Reply:The pain is normal.

As far as the tooth movement, you will likely begin to see a change after about 3-4 weeks. The changes are very small, however, so it may be difficult to notice (it's like watching the grass grow). When the wires are put into the braces, the forces deflect the teeth slightly. As the body begins to take away and add bone around the roots, the teeth will start to move. That whole process normally takes about 3-4 weeks.

I just took off my braces and my teeth is a little loose?

i just took off my braces and started to wear retainers. My teeth feels weak because i can move it with my fingers. Is this suppose to happen after you take off ur braces or is my teeth going to fall out?

I just took off my braces and my teeth is a little loose?
thats normal, the brace moved your teeth into opsition, so the gums would be a bit loose around the teeth, you should be given a retainer which will hold the teeth in place while the gums get used to it
Reply:It takes a long time to get used to the feeling of not having braces. They were bracing your teeth and now your teeth are free. It is totally normal. Hang in there, you'll get used to it. Peace.
Reply:oh i think that is normal for you! because it is!
Reply:Don't play with them, leave them alone. It should get better.Go get your deep cleaning done,it will help a lot.

Guys only: Do you prefer braces or bad teeth?

I have to get braces soon, and I'm going to high school this fall. Don't want to look like a moron so I'm getting clear braces, but if I can't and I have to get those disgusting metal braces, I'm going to just stick with bad teeth. What do you guys prefer...?

Guys only: Do you prefer braces or bad teeth?
Everyone gets braces in high school! You won't be alone. I had them in high school. And even to this day 8 years after I got them, I still get compliments on my smile.

Don't worry. Guys will still like you, even if you have metal braces. I've had plenty of crushes on girls in high school who had braces.

Goodluck!
Reply:I'd go with bracers, you might wear them for a few years but you'll have good teeth for many years, think long term!
Reply:Get the braces, you will be better off in the long run.

Braces are cute, sexy
Reply:Sorry, I'm not a guy but.....Wow, you should think about the outcome. No matter which kind of braces they are, you should get them. It might suck to have the metal ones but think how nice you'll look and feel afterwords. I know plenty of high school guys that didn't mind their girlfriends wearing braces.

Is it possible to get braces with missing teeth?

Im getting my braces on friday and i was wondering if it is normal to get braces on if your missing 2 teeth. My upper 2 canine or watever you call them arent completely grown in yet. At least not enough to put a bracket on. Would they be able to "skip over" these teeth and put the bracket on later or something? what would they do?

Is it possible to get braces with missing teeth?
Yes, you can get braces with missing teeth. Just trust the dentist, he knows what he's doing!
Reply:they will keep them under observation and put brackets on later
Reply:Yep, they put the brackets on the other teeth when they grow in.
Reply:yes. they'll skip those two missing teeth that you have. and your dentist will wait until they're grown out. i had the same experience. and also, i had to surgically remove my teeth. and it was no problem.

How young is too young for children to get braces(on their teeth)?

After my son lost his two front teeth, they have grown in very crooked. I know he will have to get braceS eventually. What's the earliest age I can have them put on and what would be one of the "better" types(invisaline, metal, clear, etc). I should also let you know that he is 7 and has lost most if not all of his baby teeth with the exception of his molars and has not grown any "wisdom teeth" as of yet. I don't thimk our insurance(hoosier health), would cover them(the braces), so we would have to probally pay payments.

Thank~ you so much for your input.

How young is too young for children to get braces(on their teeth)?
My daughter's front teeth came back in crooked as well I had the same problem however she has not lost all of her baby teeth yet but when i spoke to her dentist about it she told me just last month and my daughter is 8 that the best time would be after all the baby teeth have fallen out but unless you know for sure they are all out and the permanent ones are there and have taken their position in others words if you have taken him to the dentist

and everything is up to par such as cavities filled, etc then take him to an orthodontist and most go in btw the ages of 8 and 9 i would go with metal they are cheaper than clear since you would probably have to pay out of pocket but if you live in north carolina call 1-800-4BRACES and they will hook you up with a ortho and set up arrangements
Reply:when all their second teeth are thru ,about 11years,wisdom teeth do not count as they do not come thru until 18 to 21
Reply:Call a childens orthodontist. My kids each had them on at 10. Make a cursery examination appointment, they may do them earlier now.

.

Wisdom teeth come in after about 18 years of age.

Most orthodontists take a down payment and then monthly payments. My daughters were only $1500. but our sons were $4500.00. Hers took about three years. and His were 6 years but he had major mouth changes to be made.

Good Luck.
Reply:He can see a ortho rigth away, the doctor will examine and give you a diagnostic about his teeth.

He may decide to wait a couple of years or do it now, just talk to a specialist is the best you can do.
Reply:Call a children's dentist. they specilaize in children's teeth. Actually, he should have seen a children's dentist long before 7. If he had your child would not have crooked teeth now. In the long run it save money to take them when they are young. Children dentist are wonderful with colorful chairs and special techinics of kids. Most dentist have a payment plan.

How are braces applied to teeth?

i was just wondering how braces are attached and applied to the teeth...maybe some pictured would help...also my husband broke his jawbone and may have to get his mouth wired shut..how is that done? pics?

How are braces applied to teeth?
Howdy,

WebMD hosts an article on how braces are applied and how they work.

From their site, "Brackets are the small squares that are bonded directly to each tooth with a special dental bonding agent or are attached to orthodontic bands. Brackets act like handles, holding the arch wires that move the teeth."

So, how do the braces actually move the teeth? Again, according to WebMD, "braces work by applying continuous pressure over a period of time to slowly move teeth in a specific direction. As the teeth move, the bony tooth socket reabsorbs and changes shape as pressure is applied."

Back in the day, bright steel was the only option. Fortunately, there are less conspicuous colors nowadays.

Reply:they use cememnt....and idk how they wire a mouth shut
Reply:for the braces, they use a special glue that has to be dried with a special blue light and can only be taken off completly by polishing it away with a special tool. I don't know about the rest.
Reply:No pics but basically they will put brackets on his top and bottom teeth and weave the wire between them from top to bottom instead of side to side (as with regular braces). Aside from the pain he may already be in getting this done shouldn't hurt.

Josie is right about how they are applied directly to the teeth.
Reply:first they polish the tooth a little and then they put some glue on and harden it and do it again and stick the bracket on and do some stuff to make it stay and then they do it to all the teeth. it doesnt hurt or anything.
Reply:My friend had her jaw shut - they put a barce like piece of metal in your gum on the top and the bottom and then put elastic bands on tehn and thats how its shut and doesn't move

Can I get braces with bad teeth (I need a root canal and some wisdom teeth pulled)?

Or should I wait until my teeth are in their best shape? Also, I had bonding, so should I remove it before the braces, and if so, could my orthodontist remove it or would my dentist have to?

Can I get braces with bad teeth (I need a root canal and some wisdom teeth pulled)?
These are questions to be asked to and settled in consultation with your orthodontist, but I'll give you my experience, since you asked:

When I got braces (over 20 years ago) I had to have my wisdom teeth cut out of the bone BEFORE the braces were put on. That was so they wouldn't start to come in and mess up the dental work.
Reply:no

you need to get everything fixed first
Reply:The first consideration would be the decay rate in your mouth. A high decay rate would indicate that orthodontics would not be wise. Get the root canal done, the wisdom teeth removed and all decayed teeth and improper fillings corrected.

Next go to the orthodontist for an examination and consultation. He or she will then give you the full breakdown of anything further you need to do. That way, if you do not go for the ortho, you will at least have a good set of healthy teeth.
Reply:wait then your gonna have to fix it after a week of having them

I have 2 supernumerary premolar teeth. It needs to be taken out for my braces. Is it painful?

My orthodontist says i need to take out 4 teeth and 2 supernumerary premolar teeth before he can apply the braces on my teeth. I was wondering is it painful taking out supernumerary premolar teeth ? Can someone give me some information regarding the extraction of supernumerary premolar teeth? And is it worth getting it extracted for braces?

I have 2 supernumerary premolar teeth. It needs to be taken out for my braces. Is it painful?
supernumerary teeth? what do you mean. It means extra teeth. You need to take them out with 4 premolars, to push your front teeth inside.Unless you remove them you cannot push them in.
Reply:Without anaestesia? Hell yes...

With a jaw full of Novacaine? No, although the pulling process is annoying...The tugging can be easily felt. When properly numb, it hurts no more than any other tooth.

As for the worth it...that is up to you, although misaligned teeth can cause significant problems later in life, and even people to react badly if/when you smile. They can also cause problems with speech and eating.
Reply:I had four premolars taken out today. The oral surgeon used local anesthesia, and although the needle did hurt, I hardly felt any pain when the premolars were pulled out.

As long as your mouth is completely numb, you shouldn't feel much pain. (But if you do, tell your oral surgeon at once).

Need dental braces on my teeth!?

I was told i would need the fixed braces on my teeth and i want to know what happens . I have got the dental moulds before when i was smaller and i hated it . Any way around this?

Need dental braces on my teeth!?
the only way they can get the right measurements is by the molds, sorry. I got my braces put on 2 days ago and when i got the molds done, it was pretty quick, but just make sure u dont like get the stuff on ur tongue, otherwise itll make u gag. after that, they will probably first put spacers in ur mouth 4 one week and theyre just blue little ring things that dont hurt at all.

Good Luck !!!
Reply:You will be so glad when it's done. Great teeth are sooo attractive.

A great smile will get you far in life not only with dating but also with jobs, and interacting with other people in day to day life. You will not regret it.

Embrace your braces!

I know the dental mold sucks...actually it probably makes you gag! You can ask the dentist if there is a fruit scented/flavoured one. Let him know that you don't like it so he can help you out.
Reply:"Any way around this?"

Not sure what you're asking. Is there any way around the braces? Sure, just don't get them. Crooked teeth won't kill you, but if you GET the braces, you'll probably only have them a year or two, and you'll feel much better about yourself.

Also, try looking into the new Invisalign ones. I have a friend a work with them, and she loves them.
Reply:Sorry that's the only way they can get an accurate mold of your teeth. I know how you feel though. It's not fun.

How long will it take for teeth to look straight under braces?

Hi, i just got braces and my teeth look really bad with them on. I was wondering if it would take like 2 weeks for my teeth to look straight with/under the braces. I dont have really bad teeth, my bottoms are just a little crooked because of my overbite...and i have springs in the front. I have a bite guard thats like a retainer and i have to wear that with the braces. Also, any info on wht colors look best with brunettes can be included. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ANSWERS!

How long will it take for teeth to look straight under braces?
its gonna take more than 2 weeks. most people wear braces from 6 months to 3 years
Reply:it depends on how your teeth move. no one can say for sure, but i think the maximum amount of time it would take for them to look straight is a few months, depending on how straight your teeth are.
Reply:Well you'll probably notice the movement in a couple of months. For me my bottom teeth weren't great. In about a year they relatively straight. Yet i still had them on for a year and half afterwards....
Reply:It takes a tad bit longer than that, unfortunately, and the results are barely visible until after they're off.

Also, don't get a;ll dark colors because it tends to look funny, and all light and bright colors also look funny. Go for in the middle colors, like red and green and soft pastels, mix them up according to the season if you like.
Reply:its ok! it depends on what age ur at. since im 11 it will take me 2 yrs... im brunette also. but i dont care. i'll just pick my favorite color! GREEN! and i would put my bff's fave color on also!

Do braces usually whiten your teeth?

Just curious because i always see people with braces having white teeth.

Do braces usually whiten your teeth?
Braces straighten the teeth, they do nothing to whiten teeth. Perhaps you notice people with braces having whiter teeth because they take care of their teeth.........having spent $5,000+ on braces.
Reply:No, but if you're really lucky they may leave cement on your teeth for years.
Reply:actully it use to make sure your teeth neat and tidy
Reply:it just straigten them. most people i know had yellow teeth afterwards but it was their own fault for not taking care of em
Reply:no. infact, they can do the opposite. if when you have your braces you don't take the time to clean very carefully under the wires, when you get your braces off you'll have yellow stains.
Reply:Yeah, if you're going to spend thousands of bucks, it'd suck if your teeth still looked like crap. I would guess a lot of braces wearers along with nice straight teeth, then can whiten their teeth very easily and probably do so. For that real nice smile.
Reply:no they don't. When i see people with braces their teeth don't look white
Reply:These are people taking care of their teeth. Brushing after eating just about anything, flossing, mouth washing. If you're not keep your teeth up then everyone will know because they'll get to look awful yellow and crusty, which is never a good thing when you are paying over $4000.00 generally.

Anyone whose already had braces/othodontists....(overla... teeth)?

so i have an overcrowded mouth and my front teeth slightly overlap in the front and one sticks out more than the other (thats the only problem i have with my top teeth)

just wondering from anyone who has been in this situation or is an orthodontist if they knew about how long after braces would the two front teeth become straighter (i dont mean perfect, but just slightly better)

thanks.

Anyone whose already had braces/othodontists....(overla... teeth)?
i had the same problem... my 2 front teeth were overlapping and just since i got braces aftr like a month they got straight and lined up! it was so amazing cuz my overlap wuz BAD!! From my 2 front teeth one was almost infront of the other and it would b soo embarrasing.... but now it has lined up with the others and its only been a month...so it depends cuz everyone has different teeth now all im waiting for is for my overbite to be fixed so tht'll take almost a year and my teeth are crowded so im having 2 of em pulled out... but ya dont worry abt the overlap it'll line up prtty quick!:-)
Reply:Are you asking about the length of the treatment? Well that depends on the rest of your teeth. If just the two front teeth were messed up, I'd say maybe a year. Or less.
Reply:Braces can work very fast; within the first couple of days there was a notable difference in the size of the large gap I had between my front teeth. After 6 months they were pretty much straight and aligned. However, I had my braces for a total of 22 months; your gums and jaw need time to readjust to the new position. And then you'll need to wear your retainer regularly. I think I was told to wear it all the time for a year, then indefinitely at nights. I used to roll my eyes at the nights thing and only wear it sporadically until I went on a weeklong trip without my retainer; when I tried to put it in it felt like the metal was scraping the front of my teeth, and it didn't really fit comfortably.
Reply:They are probably going to have to pull some teeth. My friend Vanessa has to have about 7 or more pulled because her teeth are horrible! Her teeth are basically like yours, just a lot worse! She has to have her braces about...eh 6 years maybe?

My teeth hurt really bad because of my braces. Any help?

I just got my braces and my teeth hurt ALOT when I put pressure on them, so I can't bite things and I have to be really carfeul when I swallow because my tongue pushes against my teeth. So I can't eat anything, and I've tried advil and tylenol and they didn't work. My cousin got his graces the same day as me but his doesn't hurt. Help me! it hurts alot and i'm starving, i can only eat mashed potoates and soup.

My teeth hurt really bad because of my braces. Any help?
I feel your pain. that is the thing I remeber from when I had my braces put on way too many years ago, but I still remember the pain.

When they put them on they also tighten the wires running across the bottom and top. This is what causes the pain. Your cousin may not have had his tightened as much.

If you are over 12 you can 1 to 2 ibuphrofen tablets. They contain an anti-inflamatory so doesn't just focus on 'fixing' pain.

That's about the only thing you can really do.

It will ease off after a little while.

Don't eat anything that require chewing. This is hard I know. Having mashed potato as you are doing, scrambled eggs, yoghurt, jelly, WARM soup, custard are all good. Or you can get your mum to vitamise up your meal for you so you can have what they are eating. This is a lot more filling for you.

When you swallow try and focus on placing your tongue on the roof of your mouth to stop you pushing on your teeth.

I am sorry this is hurting you. It really does get so much better to the point where you don't feel them anymore and forget you have them on.

This is something the Orthodontist should tell all patients about when putting them on.
Reply:Cayenne can act as a local anesthetic for painful teeth and gums ... use only in very small quantities (a small pinch). Avoid using it if your gums seem inflamed. Don't get it in your eyes. Chamomile tea may also help. A paste made from 1 tablespoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon applied directly to the sensitive area should also help. There are other home remedies, but since I don't know your age or any other health concerns, these are the safest to use.
Reply:I had the same thing, and so do a lot of teens nowadays I imagine. Its annoyingly painfull, but you can't really avoid it without using painkillers.

Stick with soup, porridge, soft cereal (drown it in milk), fruit smoothies, and basically anything like that for the first few days.

Eventually your teeth will adapt to the braces and the pain will start to go away. After that, slowly work up to harder food. After a while, it'll be no different to life without braces (except the really hard foods).
Reply:Try cold foods such as ice cream, applesauce, cottage cheese, popsicles, if you don't bite on them, and crushed ice (but don't chew the ice or your orthodontist will have a fit since you can break your brackets off and snap your wire). Your teeth may be sensitive to cold right now, but if you can tolerate it, it may help a little bit. I remember when I got my lowers on... I was miserable for a week and was afraid I'd never feel normal, and I certainly was sure I'd never get over the pain, but just about the time when you think you can't stand it anymore, you have a decent day and you can actually eat apple slices and corn off the cob without getting it all over the place and whimpering in pain.

Good luck!

Do your teeth become loose after putting braces on your teeth?

I'm 46 years old and just had braces put on a week ago today. My teeth are so sore and it feels as though some of them are loose. Is this what happens? Someone HELP me:)

Do your teeth become loose after putting braces on your teeth?
I can totally sympathize with you! I had braces for three years, and just had them removed about a year ago. That first week or two is SO painful!! The first week, I didn't even eat anything that wasn't soup or pudding! It will get better as you progress in your treatment. Your teeth will feel loose because they will be moving to their final resting spot. For the pain, try Tylenol. I was told my orthodontist that Advil has been shown to slow the movement of teeth, so I was told to only use Tylenol. Hang in there!!!
Reply:go to the doctor and c what s wrong
Reply:If your teeth feel that way it's because they're moving according to the way your braces were put on and they're going to feel like that when they're adjusted each visit to the orthodontist. If you feel they're loose they're not they're sensitive. They have Orajel for braces if the tingly feeling you feel bothers you too much it's a desensitizer and helps to numb the discomfort to a bare minumum. Sensitive toothpaste works to lessen the discomfort.
Reply:This is how braces work. They are moving your teeth, that's all. They will be loose for a few days after each adjustment visit and then they will tighten up a bit.
Reply:yeah..my teeth felt the exact same way. and to be honest, they'll probably feel that way each time they're tightened. its completely normal. your mouth isnt used to your teeth moving, and it does feel like theyre loose. but after about a week or so they'll feel normal.

stick to soft foods for now and youll do just fine!
