hey i have had braces for about 15 months im supposed to keep them for up to 24 months anyway the teeth on either side of my two front big teeth are missing so my orthodontist is pulling all of my teeth closer together so u cant notice the missing teeth but i'm soo worried that its not gonna look naturall because the teeth next to my two front teeth are pointy ( he said hes gonna file them down though ). anyone else ever have this situation ? he was gonna do implants but he said that it will look totally normal once finished but i'm still worried i really want perfect teeth thanks

I dont have that exact problem but i have a similar one...I have WAY to much space in between my teeth...I have to keep my braces on and because when they get taken off there will be bunched up gums i have to get them laser removed...dont worry your gonna look great.
Reply:I haven't heard of this being done, although I'm sure it's possible. Does he have pictures of work like that he's done in the past. My dentist was going to do some out of the ordinary work and he showed me pictures of the before and after from somebody else. I would also be hesitant. I'm sure it will look fine, but I dont' know if it will be "perfect". If perfection is your goal I would go with the implants. It's hard to fix the filed down teeth after it's already done.
Reply:yeah, i had that problem. its not gonna look bad tho. its just gonna hurt a bit. your gonna need some tyalnol (or another pain killer) and alot of food you dont have to chew. like mashed potatoes, jello, pudding, ice cream. you know all that. just be prepared for it to hurt. but trust me once your teeth get filed down your gonna look great!
Reply:I have never had that problem but, I'm guessing that you are having nightmares. A little advise, let the Dr. do the work because then you are going to be worried about things that might happen. If it looks fake at the end then, worry.

Reply:Before you make a decision, I recommend that you get a second and third opinion, specifically from a cosmetic dentist in your local area if you're concern how your teeth will look. A good cosmetic dentist should be able to tell you what all your options are, but also have your long-term health in mind. Don’t just go to a regular general dentist because it sounds that you are also concerned with the way your teeth look, which is what cosmetic dentists specifically look to do.
In a nutshell, from what I’ve learned in my similar situation, the ideal solution is to move your teeth to their natural position and go for implants where your natural incisors are. So rather than have your orthodontist pull your teeth forward, you may want to look into having your teeth pulled back to make room for implants (I believe you need at least 6mm of space). Having your teeth pulled foward may, like in my case create too much space to close and leaves the possibly that teeth will shift, especially if you don't wear your retainer. Also, depending on the size of your K9s and incisors, they may look too big together to look natural.
You will probably be looking into veneers, implants, and/or bridges. You may need to develop a plan with your orthodontics to accommodate these possible solutions.
Improper treatment of your situation can result in jaw problems in the future and your teeth may begin grinding overtime in a way that may be unfavorable. If you are relatively young, take your time with this process because this concerns your health and look.
I am in a similar situation and did what your orthodontist is recommending, but I want perfect teeth like any other person would and his recommendation ended up complicating my situation more in terms of time and money spent. Also, there are plenty advances in dentistry to suggest that you have a variety of options.
I strongly urge you to get a second and third (and fourth and so on…) opinion from a cosmetic dentist. Beware as many dentists will claim to be cosmetic dentists, but you’ll want to find a dentist who actively participates in advanced training (beyond regular dental school) and affiliated with reputable cosmetic dentistry association. I personally met several cosmetic dentists for my situation (even Dr. 90210) and you begin to realize that there are better qualified dentists than the average. Keep in mind, as one dentist told me, cosmetic dentistry is like a religion and all of them claim their method/training is way to go, but in several cases, there are several approaches you can take.
When finding a dentist, look for those who have accreditation to organizations like the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (AACD). I looked at the credentials and affiliations of some dentists who I know were good (they’re usually listed on their websites, displayed certificates on their walls, or resume upon request), and searched for dentists who had similar accreditations. In my experience, there were several dentist who received advanced training with Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies and/or Esthetic Professionals.
Also, if/when you meet with the cosmetic dentists, be sure to see some of the work they’ve done (photographs of cases they’ve worked on).
Be warned that most insurance don’t cover cosmetic procedures. So you may have to look into payment plans if necessary. Of course, it will come down to you what you want to pay, but I caution you to remember the old adage, you get what you pay for.
Do your shopping and educate yourself along the way. At the very least get a second and third opinion, and do lots of internet research when you shop and locate a doctor.

Braces! are my teeth moving to fast...?
So i have had braces for about 8 months and they told me i needed 15 tightings in total... and so far so good besides the pain... im only geting the top done...i started out with geting tightenings every 4 weeks now its every 3 weeks to speed it up so i can get them off early... but im just wondering if it is bad that my teeth are moving so fast... the pain doesnt really go away from my teeth 100% by the next opointment... my ortho is really good and has been doing it a long time. the front of my teeth are all together and are just working on the final mollars and my bite... should i be worried at all...( i only have 4 front teeth and 4 molars, i have had my wisdom teeth out already... i only had 5 front teeth develop and the 5 tooth was pulled because it was pushed behind my bottom teeth and wanted even amounts of teeth... just to let you know if any of this is a factor)

Also, when you get them off, be sure to wear your retainer regularly, or else it will hurt a lot later! =)

They are absolutely beautiful and straight now.
Most people i know have their braces on for at least 3 years.
I have a bottom retainer which is glued to the back of my front bottom teeth which is the one your talking about, i have to wear it for 4 months. Also i have a top retainer, it is see through, sort of like a mouth guard. i had to wear it 24 hours for 2 weeks and then just every night for 4 months.
8 months seems like a really short time.
I have never known anyone to have a retainer glued to their bottom teeth for a lifetime.
It seems really quick and teeth move quickly one the braces are of.
So just be careful.
And when you get your retainer(s) where them all the time, because your teeth will move back.

Getting teeth pulled for braces! Help!?
Hey everyone. I'm new to Yahoo, and I'm just wondering if the helpful people here can help me out. Recently I switched dentists, and on my first trip (just for cleaning), the dentist noticed that a pair of my teeth were still baby teeth, but they were stuck in my mouth as hard as rock. She did an x-ray, and found out that I was born without adult teeth there. Here's a picture, not of my mouth, but I labeled it as if it were mine.

Anyway, we need to pull those 2 so that I don’t have 2 baby teeth when the rest are adults, and so they don't ware down easily. So I'm getting fake ones in, then I'm getting braces because the teeth (circled in yellow in the picture) have adult teeth above them, which are going sideways. Luckily I have space in my jaw. So I don't fear of getting the braces on, actually I look forward to it. The part I regret is getting the teeth pulled. More info in my next post.

1. What is it like to get teeth pulled?
Depends on who is doing it. If you are comfortable with your dentist, then you should be okay.
2. What is the process?
You are numbed, a wedge is stuck in your mouth so you can't bite down, the dentist yanks out the tooth with pliers while the assistant might hold your head steady.
3. How does it feel during/after they are pulled?
You are told to take Ibuprofin for the pain. If you need something stronger, they should give you a perscription. It feels weird at first to have a blank space in your mouth, but you get used to it. The gum will be sensitive and you'll drool blood a lot.
4. What is the most painful part, and if you can, describe how painful?
If it is done correctly, the process itself should not be painful. It is afterwards that you have to take meds and relax and recover. The blood is scary, but it only bleeds, like, 8 hours!

Afterward, you shouldnt smoke or drink out of a straw to avoid dry socket. And they'll give you pain meds to make you feels better. I had three pulled for braces, and it wasnt so bad.

I had them for nearly 3 years. I hated them and couldnt wait to have them off but my stupid dentist wouldnt and i had to literally beg him to take them off before my year 10 formal. I mean, they worked, but they are a pain while they are there. I was supposed to have them for 12-18 months and like i said it ended up being 3 years.

Brush your teeth with a soft small head tooth brush or electric. It may be helpful to use a pre-rinse to loosen particles. No need to wait to start brushing -- if they hurt just brush gently. Be prepared with gum wax that you stick on your braces because they can rub against the inside of your mouth and cause soreness.

Would the Crest Premium Whitestrips remove white stains on your teeth after braces?
I recently got my braces off, but now i have white stains on my teeth. Do you know if the Crest Whitestrips can remove them?

The %26quot;white%26quot; marks are caused by something different then regular staining from Colas and Coffee. I don%26#039;t think they will work, and may actually be bad for you causing tooth sensitivity in your case. The white marks are caused by enamel decalcification.
I recommend that you see a cosmetic dentist who can advise you on that situation.
