so i have an overcrowded mouth and my front teeth slightly overlap in the front and one sticks out more than the other (thats the only problem i have with my top teeth)
just wondering from anyone who has been in this situation or is an orthodontist if they knew about how long after braces would the two front teeth become straighter (i dont mean perfect, but just slightly better)

i had the same problem... my 2 front teeth were overlapping and just since i got braces aftr like a month they got straight and lined up! it was so amazing cuz my overlap wuz BAD!! From my 2 front teeth one was almost infront of the other and it would b soo embarrasing.... but now it has lined up with the others and its only been a month...so it depends cuz everyone has different teeth now all im waiting for is for my overbite to be fixed so tht'll take almost a year and my teeth are crowded so im having 2 of em pulled out... but ya dont worry abt the overlap it'll line up prtty quick!:-)
Reply:Are you asking about the length of the treatment? Well that depends on the rest of your teeth. If just the two front teeth were messed up, I'd say maybe a year. Or less.
Reply:Braces can work very fast; within the first couple of days there was a notable difference in the size of the large gap I had between my front teeth. After 6 months they were pretty much straight and aligned. However, I had my braces for a total of 22 months; your gums and jaw need time to readjust to the new position. And then you'll need to wear your retainer regularly. I think I was told to wear it all the time for a year, then indefinitely at nights. I used to roll my eyes at the nights thing and only wear it sporadically until I went on a weeklong trip without my retainer; when I tried to put it in it felt like the metal was scraping the front of my teeth, and it didn't really fit comfortably.

My teeth hurt really bad because of my braces. Any help?
I just got my braces and my teeth hurt ALOT when I put pressure on them, so I can't bite things and I have to be really carfeul when I swallow because my tongue pushes against my teeth. So I can't eat anything, and I've tried advil and tylenol and they didn't work. My cousin got his graces the same day as me but his doesn't hurt. Help me! it hurts alot and i'm starving, i can only eat mashed potoates and soup.

I feel your pain. that is the thing I remeber from when I had my braces put on way too many years ago, but I still remember the pain.
When they put them on they also tighten the wires running across the bottom and top. This is what causes the pain. Your cousin may not have had his tightened as much.
If you are over 12 you can 1 to 2 ibuphrofen tablets. They contain an anti-inflamatory so doesn't just focus on 'fixing' pain.
That's about the only thing you can really do.
It will ease off after a little while.
Don't eat anything that require chewing. This is hard I know. Having mashed potato as you are doing, scrambled eggs, yoghurt, jelly, WARM soup, custard are all good. Or you can get your mum to vitamise up your meal for you so you can have what they are eating. This is a lot more filling for you.
When you swallow try and focus on placing your tongue on the roof of your mouth to stop you pushing on your teeth.
I am sorry this is hurting you. It really does get so much better to the point where you don't feel them anymore and forget you have them on.

Do your teeth become loose after putting braces on your teeth?
I'm 46 years old and just had braces put on a week ago today. My teeth are so sore and it feels as though some of them are loose. Is this what happens? Someone HELP me:)

The first week, I didn't even eat anything that wasn't soup or pudding! It will get better as you progress in your treatment. Your teeth will feel loose because they will be moving to their final resting spot. For the pain, try Tylenol. I was told my orthodontist that Advil has been shown to slow the movement of teeth, so I was told to only use Tylenol. Hang in there!!!

Sensitive toothpaste works to lessen the discomfort.

I have an open bite that developed over the past 7 years (I'm 31). Of course I need braces and this is what my main dentist stated. But he was also talking about pulling wisdom teeth and getting cavities filled before getting braces. My wisdome teeth don't bother me, nor do the cavities. Howver the bite is bothering me because it's affecting my speech and the way I eat, so I want that taken care of asap.
Now I do have a molar that needs a root canal and crown, so I can understand getting that done. But can't all those other procedures wait until after I get braces put on? Should I get a second and third opinion?

I recently had braces put on this Friday...I went through a WHOLE lot of work just to get my teeth ready for the braces.
I know it's standard procedure to fill all cavities before putting the braces on. With me and my particular case my dentist and Orthodontist work carefully together to make a plan that would benefit the perfect results. We decided that 3 of wisdom teeth need to be removed and one is going to be pushed forward in place of back molar we decided to pull. My top bicuspid teeth (also known as the first set of fangs) are going to be removed, but they wanted to have the braces on for that particular part. I guess, what I'm saying is things may not always make sense to us, but this is their profession. So you have to think you're best interest is kept in mind, and if you don't think it is...maybe you need to find someone who you do trust. You are spending time and money for something that you want to be perfect, so if getting a second opinion makes you feel at ease, by all means do so. You can always ask the dentist or orthodontist questions about the procedures, maybe they can explain it to you so you do understand it.

Reply:Braces can be a breeding ground for cavities because they are hard to clean around. So get the cavities fixed. Wisdom teether probably have to come out to make room for the teeth to shift to the right position.
As for getting another opinion, always.
Reply:Having had braces I know that even getting your teeth cleaned is a huge pain when you have them! So for your own benefit its best to have that work done now while they aren't bothering you. If they were to start bothering you while you had braces it would be an even bigger mess to fix. Also wisdom teeth can put pressure on your normal teeth that can make teeth that have been straighten crowd and go crooked after you have your braces taken off. That happened to me, so best not to take chances and just have them out now.

You will have bands on your molars, so if there is anything needing to be done to them it should be done before the braces go on. If the cavities go untreated they can get worse and lead to tooth decay and further root canals or work.
Reply:I am getting my braces on Friday. I am 36. I had to have all the routine stuff done- check for cavities, had to have a root canal and one extraction. Kinda a pain to do all of it, but is all has to be done prior. I did not have any cavities filled; my old silver ones will be replaced after braces. The ortho said my teeth will shift, so the cosmetic needs should be done after.
Good luck, don't delay. Get your braces. I know it will hurt and be a blow to my vanity, but I know my teeth will be Hollywood great when I am finally done in 14 months.

it is much easier to do filling without braces, sometimes a bracket is loosened while fillings are being done... the cavities may not be bothering you now, but they do not get better only worse...
if you are going to the expense of braces, you should make sure your teeth are healthy .....

How can I take braces off my teeth?
Dumb question? Maybe. I had braces put on the bottom front row of teeth when I was visiting some relatives in another country--much cheaper than in the US. I had planned to go back for another visit, but now I can't. I've called around my area asking dentists what they would charge. They want about $600 just to take them off!

The better question to ask is what do you want the final result to look like? If it doesn't matter then just leave them on until you infact CAN go back. If it matters, seek professional help for their removal.
If left on too long, they can cause staining, if that's not a problem for you and they're done doing their job, meaning that no more adjustments are necessary, then leaving them on until.... isn't really a problem. The most important thing to remember is that they will also nee a very professional cleaning done at every six months to be sure that their lingering attachments don't cause any cavities and decay.

Reply:i prefer you go to a licensed professional that one of your family memebers or friends know. this may give you a discount. about your $600 amount, i doubt that to be true. it is overpriced since it is for the removal alone. do not plan to take weird things and ways that the former users have advised you to do. i never had braces on and i can only emphatize with you. but i have known a few who does. they do not pay that much amount of money to get their braces removed because it is removed for free... once you've completed the number of months required to have yout teeth all lined up. i think you should just wait and then get them removed --- for free.

How much do clear braces cost? .... Wisdom teeth?
Okay so I know it's really based on what you need done, but I only need my four front bottom teeth straightened out.
I don't know what brands they use for clear braces but how much do you think it would cost?
Or can can you have it done any other way, like other than braces?

You should call an orthodontist office, they will be able to give you a proper and more accurate quote, since different offices charge different prices. I asked my ortho (but it was for top and bottom) and it's around $7000 (canadian) so maybe half for bottom? Do they even do that? Like, half the mouth?
I'd also ask about wisdom teeth. I don't think you have to be a specific age... I mean I don't think they'd do it for like a 13/14 year old mostly cuz wisdom teeth aren't even through at that age but if they're impacted you have the option of asking to get them removed so I'm pretty sure 16 would be fine. Again, though, these are questions better suited for an orthodontist.

I don't know what brands they use for clear braces but how much do you think it would cost?
Or can can you have it done any other way, like other than braces?
Oh and I know this is whole other question itself, but is there a certain age you have to be when they pull out your wisdom teeth?
Or like do you have to be 18 or can you be per-say 16?
