If the braces are making my teeth uneven like this "/" can they move the brackets to try to camoflage the effect so that the outcome is more like this "--".
Is this something that orthodontists can do? And if they can fix this, how could they fix it. Please let me know.

Hi yesterday I didn't get my braces tightened but like they put new colors on them but ever since my front bottom teeth hurt. Are new colors on braces suppose to help straighten teeth too?

The elastics hold the arch wire in place. It is the arch wire that generates movement of the teeth. Since you say they didn't adjust the arch wire, it is likely that your old elastics had stretched a little, relieving some of the pressure. Fresh elastics are tighter and holding the wire closer to your teeth.

They always let me pick which colors I wanted....I always thought that the new bands each month were to help tighten the braces...But I am not for sure...I know the first day or two after getting the new bands I was usually a little sore...Try taking some ibuprofen or something...it should help with the pain...Also just a little helpful advice, try not to break the brackets off as much as you can....I used to break them off all the time and was supposed to only wear them for 1.5 years....It wound up turning into 5 years because I didnt' take care of them.....Hopefully you will be more responsible!! LOL....Good Luck !

it could be because your bite is fine...they dont just look at the crookedness of your teeth its also how your teeth shut when you close your mouth...if you cannot get braces now you can always later get some cosmetic dentistry to fix them...

Reply:Get a second opinion from another orthodontist. If that one says you don't need braces, then you probably don't - remember, they get money for having patients, so they're likely to say you need them even if you only need them a little bit.
It's human nature to be way too overly critical of ourselves... perhaps your teeth look fine to everyone else! :)
Anyway, get that second opinion and express your concerns to that orthodontist!

I going to have a tooth removed and then braces put on my teeth. WIll it hurt?
I am the biggest baby in the world when it comes to pain. My dentist said that he first needs to take out a tooth from my mouth before he can apply the braces on my teeth. I was wondering how much does it hurt while taking out a tooth? Also does it hurt while applying the braces? Will it be uncomfortable? Should i get it done? Is it worth the pain?

Having braces put on isnt all that bad. (They were done before I even knew it with mine!)
Going back to have the Braces Adjusted every couple of weeks is the part that really isnt all that Comfy. But it doesnt hurt really bad at the same time!

For the procedures themselves you can talk to your dentist and tell him/her that you are sensitive to the pain and they can give you something to help. They will numb the area for the tooth pull so you won't actually feel it. Just think of how pretty and straight your smile will be when its all done.

Reply:I have braces, but i've never had a permenant tooth pulled. Braces don't hurt so much, you'll get used to it. Just make sure to brush and floss-mouth wash would help too. Since they're going to pull a permenant tooth, they'll probably numb you or put you to sleep :) so you shouldn't feel that.

Reply:taking out the tooth doesnt really hurt because they numb the area that they put the needle in that numbs your gums. depending on what tooth it is you may feel pressure. applying the braces is a breeze, your mouth just gets really dry when they put them on so when they are done you are drooling all over the place haha. the only "pain" is the first FEW days of the braces and it is only a pressure feeling. advil did the trick for me. and it is WELL worth the pain. I had 2 teeth removed, a palate expander as well as a lower expander for a year, and braces for about 4-5 years. of course my teeth were awful. (im scottish)

Brace...never hurt me atol, people always say about the tighting is the worst and i was soo worried about the pain for the tightin bt it really wasnt that bad, like i sed everyones pain levels are different. The first few days braces feel strange and yes you can feel your teeth moving and its a strange sensation but you'll get used to it eventually. to me it was like an itching kind of sensation and it anoyed me! lol. but its hurts when you eat so just stick to easy stuff like soup and things liek that for a few days first and work your way to eating normally again..

Reply:the extraction will be a easy cheesy. the dentist will administer good anesthesia and you'll feel pulling and pushing but no pain or sharpness.
placing the braces will also be easy cheesy. it will be uncomfortable when you have the braces engaged and/or tightened. it will feel like you have toothpicks in between everyone of the your teeth. it'll be swore and annoying for the first couple of days of each tightening visit.
the 'worthy-ness' of braces is up to you. i'm a dentist and i put a huge value on one's smile and my own. personally, it's people's smile that i see first. however, sometimes people's expectations exceed what is possible for them. i get people who expect julia roberts' smile, but walk into my office with a mouth full of rotten teeth!

Also make sure you have your parent or gaurdian get a tropicana orange slushie after u get your braces on cause it also eases the pain!! good luck!

Reply:I had the exact same thing as you done two years ago when I got my braces on. I'm just going to tell you right now, the most pain that you will experience with braces is when you've just had them adjusted, and you try to eat something besides bread or liquid.
Anyway. When I had the tooth removed, I wasn't put under - just on some gas. The most painful part of the actual pulling was just when they put the Novocaine in. But even then, it really only hurt about 3/4 as much as when a fly bites you on the ankle. I didn't really feel much when they were actually pulling the tooth, and at the time I actually thought it was funny (I was on gas, remember. :D).
It doesn't really hurt to much when applying the braces. The worst part, when you first get the braces at least, is that your lips will become sore from the rough brackets rubbing on them. But, they dentist should give you some wax to put on the brackets, and then they're smooth and comfortable. And, after a week or two, your lips will get used to the brackets, and you won't even need the wax anymore.
All in all, I'd say it's worth it. Honestly, there is a minimal amount of pain, and you would probably regret NOT doing it in the long run.

The braces will more likely be uncomfortable rather than out and out painful.

Put some oral jel on it but put it on when you get there. the novicane is going to hurt a little big it just fears like a piercing. I have the greatest dentist in the world in manhattan and ask you dentist to like pull your lip/ pull it from your mouth then to your mouth he might even jiggle it. after the novicane it wont hurt one bit. nd its better to get it done b4 he puts on the braces b/c if u put braces on b4 that it dont make sense. you will be happy with the outcome your teeth woud be perfect. the only thing with braces is that they hurt for a couple of nights so your teeth get use to it. if you go to school dont go.

Reply:Brush often and brush well, you don't want decalcification rings on your teeth. Don't eat the stuff they tell you not to, you could knock a bracket off.
I've never seen the invisible ones (I guess you're not supposed to, are you?) so I don't know about those.

Reply:I work for an orthodontist and the best thing for you to do is just listen to what the Dr. suggest, those clear invasligns don't work all that well, but you can still get clear metal braces. It all depends on how your teeth are positioned. I've seen them put braces behind your teeth, which is much more expensive, but good if you dont' want to be embarressed with the wires. Reply:well if your trying to get the guy invisible they are more expensive but... and then you will be really bugged so i use vasoline sometimes (no matches though =) or wax just to make you a little more comfortable.

Reply:I'd say many people have braces! Grown adults, young adults, teens, pre-teens and kids! It won't matter which type of braces you get, as long as you feel comfortable with the one you choose! But, I'd go with invisible braces, but if your on a tight budget, it's better to get metal braces. Don't worry, JUST SMILE! BRACES ARE COOL!

I have them.. and they work REALLY very fast I will get mine off an a few weeks already! They look like the normal ones.a orthadontist around here in kansas invented them so i hope they have them where you live. GOOD LUCK!
Reply:I loved braces. I would get the ones where you have the option of getting the bands changed to different colors. Unless you want them to be less visible, in which case you would get the clear ones. I had the colored ones. I would tell the lady to use a different color on each of them. Haha. And she would cause she's awesome. I sometimes really miss my braces. Having the color option, you can make your braces have the colors for holidays, black/orange for Halloween, green/red for Christmas, pastels for Easter, etc.
The orthadontist always say not to eat ice, popcorn, gum, etc. while having braces because it will get stuck. You need not to worry about that cause it's not usually bad at all. However, if you like celery, try to avoid it. I ate celery once while I had braces. Oh me, oh my. It was really hard to get out. Haha.
You get used to them after the first month or so. Good luck to whatever you do decide and if you need anything, let me know and I'll be happy to help you. =]

Reply:Metal work alot better, and you get to pick the colors! The plastic ones don't work as fast, so you will probably have them on for longer. The plastic braces are invisable, but when you eat, they turn yellow, and they stay like that for an hour or so. I suggest getting metal braces. Hope this helps!

1. When they are fitting your bands whatever you do don't taste the glue. Hide your tongue in the back of your mouth and don't take it out until they are finished!!! Trust me!
2. For the first couple days / weeks your entire mouth will be in pain. Invest in soups and soft chew-ables. Rinse with salt water, and deriding mouthwashes. Can't think of any names.
3. Get an automatic toothbrush. They help a lot. Also keep a portable toothbrush and toothpaste with you as food will always gets stuck in your braces.
4. Invest in sugar free non chewable mints. Example the paper thin Listerine breath strips.
5. Floss threaders are your friends, w/o them flossing is nigh impossible.
6. Learn what you can and cannot eat. Some of the stuff on the do no list you can eat, like in bone chicken, and biting into sandwiches is doable, you just have to know how much pressure you can put on your brackets before they pop! Sticky candy , and gum simply stay away from.
7. Do not get depressed after you first have them on. You'll look at yourself in the mirror and you'll look different, and then there's the pain and not eating your fave foods as quickly and easily as you used to, but I promise it'll get better. Soon you'll find out that you can eat more than what you thought you could, you'll see that no one even really notices your braces except you. Your mouth will get stronger and not be as sensitive and feel like you have barbed wire in your mouth, and you'll get used to them and even like the fact that you have them.
8. Do not get discouraged if you do not see results right away. It took me around a month and a half to see results, and now after 4 months I'm amazed how fast time has flown by and the results are kicking in. My cross bite is fixed now it's just a matter of spacing and moving my permanent tooth where the baby tooth was.
9. Always keep your check up appointments at all costs. The longer you wait or if you push them back, could alter your treatment time.

Sometimes if is only to straighten your teeth you could wear the invisible but if the problem with your mouth is more complicated they will recommend the metal ones. The important thing here is that you have all your questions answer with your Doctor and to not stress to much about it.
If your problem is really simple and you follow instructions to the teeth you will probably have them remove in less than 2 years. Good Luck!!!

Reply:Brush often and brush well, you don't want decalcification rings on your teeth. Don't eat the stuff they tell you not to, you could knock a bracket off.
I've never seen the invisible ones (I guess you're not supposed to, are you?) so I don't know about those.

Reply:I work for an orthodontist and the best thing for you to do is just listen to what the Dr. suggest, those clear invasligns don't work all that well, but you can still get clear metal braces. It all depends on how your teeth are positioned. I've seen them put braces behind your teeth, which is much more expensive, but good if you dont' want to be embarressed with the wires. Reply:I'd say many people have braces! Grown adults, young adults, teens, pre-teens and kids! It won't matter which type of braces you get, as long as you feel comfortable with the one you choose! But, I'd go with invisible braces, but if your on a tight budget, it's better to get metal braces. Don't worry, JUST SMILE! BRACES ARE COOL!

I have them.. and they work REALLY very fast I will get mine off an a few weeks already! They look like the normal ones.a orthadontist around here in kansas invented them so i hope they have them where you live. GOOD LUCK!
Reply:I loved braces. I would get the ones where you have the option of getting the bands changed to different colors. Unless you want them to be less visible, in which case you would get the clear ones. I had the colored ones. I would tell the lady to use a different color on each of them. Haha. And she would cause she's awesome. I sometimes really miss my braces. Having the color option, you can make your braces have the colors for holidays, black/orange for Halloween, green/red for Christmas, pastels for Easter, etc.
The orthadontist always say not to eat ice, popcorn, gum, etc. while having braces because it will get stuck. You need not to worry about that cause it's not usually bad at all. However, if you like celery, try to avoid it. I ate celery once while I had braces. Oh me, oh my. It was really hard to get out. Haha.
You get used to them after the first month or so. Good luck to whatever you do decide and if you need anything, let me know and I'll be happy to help you. =]

Well I've had braces for 11 months now and my teeth are pretty straight =) .. but still i think some colors can make them look awkward..

I do not believe that any specific color would make your teeth look straighter, but if you want your braces to be the least noticeable get silver because that is the color of the brackets and wires. That is what I did for two and a half years while I had braces. I loved silver.

Does wearing braces make your teeth look bigger after you've taken them off?
My friends and I were looking at pictures and noticed that the people who previously had braces looked like they had teeth that were bigger than those that didn't. Does wearing braces push your gums back?

I personally felt that my teeth looked bigger, but then I realised that I hadn't seen them without braces on them for a while, and probably wasn't used to seeing them normally. Another thing that might make them look bigger is if the teeth were very badly positioned in the mouth to begin with, on angles and such. If the teeth then become straightened, they may look bigger. Hope this helps!

Reply:of course not! there is no way that it's possible to get bigger teeth by trying to rotate and reposition your teeth. maybe it's some kind of optical illusion that you see, but your teeth will not be able to grow more dentin, pulp, enamel, etc. just by moving them. however, it is possible to shorten your roots if your teeth move too quickly, but that's below the gum line. maybe it looks bigger because they're teeth are close together and equally positioned to look as if they grew.
