Braces and my teeth?

im getting braces in like 4 months and im kinda scared of what the pain is gonna be like, :P. does spacers or getting teeth puled hurt. (and i dont mean does your teeth hurt later, i mean when they DO IT). whats the worst thing about braces. does it hurt when they tighten them? just some1 please tell me all about it! please!

Braces and my teeth?
Spacers = when they put it in, it feels like you have food stuck between them. It doesn't hurt when they put them in, but once you start to bite food, it's sore for a week.

Pulling out tooth = They put a numbing agent around the area. All you feel is pressure. No pain. You will hear a snapping sound when the teeth comes out. =0

Braces = When they tighten the braces it hurts a lot. Once it's tight, you will feel normal but after 6 hours since you get them, there is a lot of pain as your teeth are moving.

I got mine 2 days ago, and the night of the braces, while i slept, my top teeth touched the bottom teeth slightly andit was so sore, it woke me up! I couldn't sleep because I kept biting myself awake. My sister experienced this too... The second day it's not as sore but still hurts when you eat stuff.
Reply:I got my braces in, haven't had a second tightening but the first time they put in the wire, they tightened it. A tugging feeling when they apply it and it hurts a little but once it's in it feels normal. Few hours later, there's huge pain! Report It

Reply:yea. the spacers did hurt. but the orthos tell you to take tylenol or pain killers a few hours before you go to ur appointment so it wouldn't hurt that much. if they don't, well take them a few hours before ur appointment anyways. it hurts because the rubber bands are shitfing ur teeth together in a short period of time so that they can put ur molar brace/crown thing around ur tooth.

honestly, for me, when i got braces, it didn't hurt as they said it would. but it's different for every person. it was a little tight, but after a few hours, i was fine. the WORST part about the experience is getting them on for the first time. ur teeth will hurt alot cuz ur not used to the tightness and all the metals in ur mouth. so youll be sensitive for about a week. stick up on A LOT of soups, jellos, apple sauce, or anything that doesn't require much chewing. if you think you can handle the chewing, [this may sound gross] but what i did was i ripped a piece of food, placed it in my mouth, and allowed the food to soak up my saliva so that itll be softer to chew.

but then you'll get used to it, nd it will be no big deal.

youll also get LOTS of cuts nd sores in ur mouth. but no worries. the orthos will give you packs of wax that you'll be able to place on ur brackets so they won't scrape ur cheeks.

hope this helps....^.^
Reply:When the ortho puts your spacers in, they feel a little weird, like you have food stuck in your teeth. You cant floss where the spacers are or else they will come out. Getting a tooth pulled doesnt hurt because they numb your gums before you get the injection to numb the tooth, so you wont even feel the needle go in, and you wont feel anything when the tooth is pulled. The worst thing about braces is that you cant chew gum or eat hard foods or candy (ex.-peanuts, jawbreakers etc). You have to brush 3 times a day and rinse with flouride rinse once a day. The braces will hurt for about a week after you get them on, and for about two days when you get them tightened. When you get the braces the braces put on it doesnt hurt, but after it does. Good luck with the braces, and if you have anymore questions feel free to email me.
Reply:the thing they use to keep your mouth open is called a cheek retractor. all it does is stop your cheeks from touching your teeth, because they need a dry surface to bond the brackets to.

they will also put a saliva ejector in your mouth, which sucks out the spit while your lying down. usually this only stays in while they do your back teeth, (pre molars and molars).and after that they will put cotton in your mouth, which isnt so bad.

all you have to remember is to breath through your nose, calm steady breaths.

its really just a mind over matter thing, nothing will get stuck in your throat, if this was the case there would be a lot less people getting braces...

the dentist doesnt want to kill you, they just want you to be as comfortable and relaxed as posible.
