Problem with braces and wisdom teeth?

I have had braces for about 2 months and I'm concerned that when my wisdom teeth come in my teeth will no longer be straight and the braces that were expensive were pointless. Is it possible to get wisdom teeth removed before they erupt? Should I be worried and what should I do?

Problem with braces and wisdom teeth?
yes, you can get your wisdom teeth out before they erupt. It's called a completely-bony extraction, i personally had that done. A general dentist cannot do this procedure, you have to go to a periodontist or an oral surgeon. They're gonna cut through the gum and the bone to be able to get to the tooth, or it just depends on how far in your teeth still are. Most likely you will be sedated for this, it's not an easy thing to do and you might get scared with all the pulling if you are awake for it. It's best to get all four of them out at the same time, just get it over with so you don't have to come back. Since you need a specialist for this, it runs a little expensive. i paid about 1000 for all four of mine, but i worked for the dentist at the time, so don't expect this to be cheap... you can end up having to pay about 2000-2500. Unless you have insurance, then it's a different story. As far as it affecting your braces, it just depends of whether you have room for them or not, and the way that they are coming in. Some times they are flipped over on the side, you can ask your orthodontist. Regardless, it is important to get them out, at least as soon as they come in. They are really difficult to keep clean and they usually cause cavities on the teeth next to them. Sometimes they hurt too. Hope this helps
Reply:Around 17 most orthodontist will recommend a visit to the oral surgeon, if not sooner, to have your wisdom teeth removed to prevent your teeth from being moved after all that hard work. Seek a consult with an oral surgeon to have your wisdom teeth evaluated.
Reply:Yes, your wisdom teeth will mess up the expensive work you have had done. They can be removed before they erupt. Usually they can be removed anytime after age 16. You should go to an oral surgeon though as they are best at dealing with this. I would also mention it to your orthodontist and they can probably give you a referral.
Reply:I have all of my wisdom teeth and braces, and they haven't done anything. Friends of mine say that they had gotten their wisdom teeth pulled before they got braces, but my orthodontist told me that I was getting mine out after braces, when I get my retainer.

The Cost Of Braces For Some Teeth?

How much would braces cost if I needed them for a few of my teeth, would they cost less or would they cost the same as if you had braces for all of your teeth?

P.S. How much would one set of braces cost for one row of teeth (like for just the top or for just the bottom)?

The Cost Of Braces For Some Teeth?
Not sure but I know for my daughter(s) (one for 2 years and one for 3 years) it was $5,000.00 (each kid)
Reply:Almost all the time, you won't find someone willing to just move a few teeth around because that will mess up either your bite or the alignment of your other teeth. You will basically need both arches of braces, and yes, it's about $5k. You may be a good candidate for invisiline though, although that's expensive too. Ortho isn't cheap.
Reply:It varies from dentist to dentist. Depends on time and what needs to be done. Most Orthos will give a free consultation. And many offer payment plans. Mines was top and bottom, 2 1/2 years, $5000, in No. Ca. =)

Can you get braces on prosthetic teeth?i think this one's for a dentist or a med student?

Ok the problem is I have a pretty bad overjet and I decided recently to get braces. I started the overall treatment first, teeth caries, etc. and they did a root canal on one of my frontal teeth which has been damaged a while ago. The problem is that it didn't work and next week they'll have to do a root resection on it. Now, i read online and it said that if that doesn't work, the next option is extraction. My question is, if that would be the case, and they have to extract the tooth, will they be able to put the braces on a fake tooth? will it move along with the others or how would it work?

Can you get braces on prosthetic teeth?i think this one's for a dentist or a med student?
If you get the tooth extracted then your options for filling the space would be a denture, an implant, or a bridge. If you also want braces though, then that's a very tricky situation because the "normal" bridge won't work because you won't be able to ensure the two side teeth (that the bridge gets attached to in order to create the tooth in the middle) move together with it. Also, you might not even want to get the other teeth to move with it because it's probably in the wrong position now anyways.... so that cancels out a bridge. An implant before braces is automatically canceled out because once it's in it's not going anywhere. A denture would almost work but as your teeth shift the denture would need to be CONSTANTLY redone, which would cost a lot and not be beneficial in the end for all the time spent on it and with it getting fixed and stuff.

*edit*

In that case, I'm thinking it's probably possible to add a "semi-real-looking-tooth" to the chain of brackets if the resection doesn't work. The ortho could cement a bracket onto a fake tooth, and then just add it into the line of brackets, with the wire attached, etc, and somewhat attach it to the other teeth next to it (pretty much a somewhat-flexible type of bridge!)

Either way it'll work out... hopefully the resection will work, and if not then they won't leave you toothless for two years, there's definitely non-permanent options for now until everything gets fixed.

PS: I'm happy you decided to take care of your teeth now because once everything gets all straightened out you'll have lotsss and lots of years of nice teeth and a healthy mouth especially since you haven't caused any permanent bone loss or anything, so you should be proud of yourself for finally getting things fixed up!!
Reply:An implant can not be moved orthodontically. Only teeth can do that. So if they extract, they will place a temporary tooth there during the orthodontic treatment and then place the implant.
Reply:You need to get an orthodontist that will coordinate work with your dentist. You may find that you need to take out some teeth anyway for your orthodontic treatment, and your dentist would have to do that part. If it turns out you would have had to take out the tooth that is damaged anyway, that would be ideal for your current situation. Ask your dentist for a referral to an orthodontist. Get the photos and xrays done, and go over all your options for treatment with everyone involved.

I am doing braces and implant (also resulting from an unsuccessful root canal). My dentist, and orthodontist are in complete coordination. They are also across the street from each other. I schedule appointments back to back, which is convenient for me.

With an implant, you have to wait a while (months) after the post is in before they can put on the tooth anyway. You can start the braces in the meantime, and when they finally put a tooth in they will put in one that will fit your new bite.

I have braces. My wisdom teeth are coming in. What happens from here?

I'm in terrible pain from my wisdom teeth AND from my braces. And I've been trying to wear my rubber bands as often as I can, but I just can't bear the pain.

Do you think they'll pull them all now, or wait till after I get my braces off?

I have braces. My wisdom teeth are coming in. What happens from here?
You can see an oral surgeon, and he/she should have no problems removing your wisdom teeth. Braces do not present a problem here. In fact, once the teeth are out, it may make your orthodontist's job easier. Ask your general dentist or orthodontist for a referral. You don't have to wait for this.
Reply:If you're in so much pain they might pull them now, but i would call the orthodontist if you're in that much pain.
Reply:well, lol. I guess you should ask to have them pulled now, especially if your in so much pain. I just got my braces taken off a few months ago, and I think my wisdom teeth are coming in. I'm going to have them put me to sleep and just cut those suckers out.
Reply:Umm i honestly dont know. I just got my braces off and i am 13 so i dont have my wisdom teeth yet, but i have all the others, and i think you should just call the Braces place you go to and they will know what to do.
Reply:first ofcourse ask your orthodontist,he'll have 2 see some x-rays 2 know if ur wisdoms have a place 2 come out, or if they'll be impacted and in dat case u'll have 2 remove them coz they might affect the stability of ur teeth after gettin off ur braces.

Braces on my teeth, help.?

Ok I have a jaw alignment problem, not severe, looks exactly like this http://i12.tinypic.com/6cgifyw.jpg

ok, i'm almost 15 and i'm going to the orthodontist soon. And I've had that panarama thing and I DO NOT have wisdom teeth, so that will not be a problem. As a opinion.. do you think the orthodontist will tell me my teeth are still shifting (even though I doubt they will shift THAT much) or will he just give me braces to fix it because my teeth are just about done shifting?

Braces on my teeth, help.?
Even if your teeth do keep shifting, it probably won't be too much...getting braces to help align them right is best even though it can be expensive. And if you do everything you're told it probably won't be very long that you have them on and when you get them off you won't have to wear them again unless you don't keep up with the retainers. Don't be stupid like I was, I was lazy and didn't keep up with all the rubber bands and stuff so I had my braces on for over 4 years...sucked but yeah...they're off now and it's nice to have straight teeth.
Reply:hun he will give you braces.

i have the same problem, along with others, but braces are not a huge problem.
Reply:thats so wierd i have the same problem and im going to the dentist tomorrow. and im even grtting the picture thing done but dont worry my dentist said with the brace your teeth will be back to normal. ^_^
Reply:dont worrie about the braces he might say you teeth are shifting but its no big deal, everybody has braces and its better to get them while your young then regret it later

TRUST ME

o nd all that stuff they say about it being painful is BS i almost fell asleep during the prosedure, literally
Reply:I'm 12 and I'm getting braces by the end of this year!!! I couldn't wait any longer!!! My teeth only got worse as I delayed my braces treatment...I don't think your ortho will tell u your's will shift again..cos' in your case..it doesn't look easy to be fixed the natural way..I would say go for the braces!!! If you think braces make you look ugly..it doesn't!!! I think it looks sooo cool!!! I'll be getting maybe pink or blue for my first braces!!! And..I can't wait!!!
Reply:even people in their 30's and 40's get braces, so i don't think at 15 your teeth are done shifting. if you want "perfect" teeth, listen to your ortho.
Reply:actually my teeth also like that but not really far like the pic but i think you should consult first with the dentist whether he can fix that or not bcoz im wearing braces and my dentist can fix it.

Teeth removed for braces?

if anyone here had teeth removed for braces, do your teeth know look out of place, even though there are straight now?

I am getting 4 pre molars removed and want to know if it will change your face structure much.

Also has anyone had there teeth moved too far ahead such as molers moving too far forwards in order to close the gaps?

Teeth removed for braces?
I had four teeth extracted for braces. My teeth do not look out of place even though they are straight now. Your facial structure will not change at all.
Reply:i had 4 pre-molars removed and a brace put on last year and the gaps have now closed on one side but not the other.

i don't think it changes your face structure that much but my lips don't stick out as much as they used to.
Reply:If your really concerned about this, ask your orthodontist for before and after pictures of people who have had similar treatment. They should be more than happy to show you results that should parrell yours; remember no results are guaranteed
Reply:I'm not sure what you consider a pre-molar. If you mean the bi-cuspids, they are usually the ones they choose to remove for overcrowded mouths. But if it's baby teeth molars, then they just need to be removed to begin the work.

Braces for upper teeth?

i only need braces for my upper teeth because of my gap thats in my 2 front teeth my teeth are straight i just need it to close my gap how much do you think it real cost and can you explain to me about insurrace i heard that they pay it for you.

Braces for upper teeth?
I have braces, too. Mine were 5,000 because I have top and bottom. Maybe yours might be 1,000 - 3,000. I'm not sure. Insurance does help pay some, but idk if all.

Good luck!
Reply:I have the same problem except tomorrow i'm getting braces on top and bottom because of how my mouth is... but I went to 2 orthodontists to get different opinions and the one orthodontist said getting braces just on my front 4 teeth would close the gap. He said this procedure would cost $1400, which isnt to bad. My insurance pays 20% the down payment then 50% the rest of it up to $2000. So yeah.. you'll have to call your insurance and see what they pay then go to an orthodontist to get an opinion. HOPE THIS HELPS!!!!

Braces and wisdom teeth???

im going to get braces soon ( im 14 ). and i wanted to know . when my teeth are all straight.. and later on when im older. and i get my wisdom teeth.. are they gonna make my teeth crooked again?

Braces and wisdom teeth???
depends how much room is in your mouth and if they grow straight out or inward towards your other teeth, i am 20 and have invisalign, but i got my wisdom teeth removed when i was 18 it would have bee a disaster and waste of money if i wouldnt have waited.... it just depends usually your ortho will know what to do, i wouldnt worry to much
Reply:no your wisdom teeth are behind everything and they are still in your skin im 16 and just got braces like 3 months ago and i needed to get my wisdom teeth out for jaw surgery but they connect the braces one before your last teeth anyway so they dont even bug those wisdom teeth and my brother got his wisdom teeth out like 2 months before me and he had his braces off for like 2 or 3 years and his teeth are still the same so no they wont mess your teeth up
Reply:they could. It just depends on where they are in your mouth.
Reply:they might. Its most likely that they are. I had braces b4 my wisdom teeth had grown. I had to get my wisdom teeth removed after getting braces because the were going to make my teeth crooked again
Reply:Your orthodontist will determine whether or not your wisdom teeth need to be pulled. Many times, wisdom teeth stay dormant and don't even come in; they just sit in your jaw posing no threat to the new alignment. However, many orthodontists prefer to have them pulled anyway just as a precaution. For now, just work on getting through the slight inconvenience of the braces. If your wisdom teeth DO end up needing to be pulled, it's not a big deal. It's a very minor surgery that only takes a few days to heal from.
Reply:Wisdom teeth are the last teeth at each end of the upper and lower gums, at the very back of the mouth. The medical name for wisdom teeth is the third molars.

Wisdom teeth usually grow through the gums during your late teens or early twenties. There are normally four wisdom teeth. Often, there is not enough room in the mouth for the wisdom teeth to grow through in a straight line and they will emerge at an angle to fill the available space.

At your age getting your wisdom teeth out is probably not the best thing to do. I am sure your orthodontist will keep a close eye are your third molars and when your done with orthodontics he will probably let you know you need to get your wisdom teeth out at that point.
Reply:my orthodontist told me to get mine taken out because they could mess up everything the braces had done when they grew in.

i got my braces off in 8th grade and they were able to take the bottom ones out first. i guess the top ones hadn't grown in enough yet back when i was in 8th grade, so when i was in 11th grade, they took the top ones out.

it hurts, but i would probably suggest getting them all out at the same time so you don't have to suffer twice.

After braces will my teeth space out again?

i have gaps in between my front teeth so i wanted this fixed. when i went to the orthodontist they told me that my teeth were "dainty". they told me that if i did get braces they might space out again after they were removed. (amount depending on how strictly i wore my retainer) so my question is, is there anything that could keep them from spacing out again?

After braces will my teeth space out again?
You may need to see an oral surgeon and speak to him about frenectomy, that is where they cut the frenum(muscle) between the two front teeth. That will close the gap in the front and with proper retainer wearing, it shouldn't open up again. Also, they can use a lingual retainer that is glued behind your teeth to hold everything together, this is a permanent retainer
Reply:Wear your retainer as much as possible because after you have braces theres a chance your teeth can space out afterwards but the retainer helps hold your teeth together.
Reply:wear your retainer alot
Reply:if u keep wearing ur retainers whatever time he recommends then ur teeth will straighten.

Braces for bottom teeth?

I need to get braces for my bottom teeth..... does anyone know how much ill be paying??? My insurance wont cover orthodontics

Braces for bottom teeth?
I think the range is around $1000-$2000 depending on if you get invisilin or metal braces. If you need a loan, I used centrum funding during my last dental visit and they had really good rates.
Reply:It matters how long your getting the braces for. I had braces (top and bottom) for about 2 and a half years and it turned out to be 4,000 dollars... but....I guess yours will take about 6 months or a year.. it'll be 500? Little bit less.
Reply:because you are only gettin bottom braces they may only cost 2000-4000 dollars but to be sure you would have to find out from your orthodontist.
Reply:i have to get top and bottom and it caost $4000 and the insurens pays $2000 so if it just for bottom probley around $700 to $1500 so o by the way have fun with ur new bottom braces lol

Braces and better teeth?

ive alrready had braces for three years and have been wearing me retainer for about 2 years now but i really dont like how my teeth turned out..i dont think my parents will pay for me to have braces again..could reshaping my retainer help me get the teeth i want or should i just wait to get venners till im older

Braces and better teeth?
There is a plain outright simple answer to your question my lady...You need to get a second opinion. Not all dental professionals are created equal when it comes to professional talent...You should get an appointment for an evaluation with another Orthodontist and get his or her opinion as to how you should proceed. Good luck and I wish you well.

I have braces and my teeth are crooked, I am getting them off soon.?

I have braces and one of my bottom teeth is still crooked, I am getting them off soon. Basically I had braces because of overbite and one of my bottom teeth was crooked, now that teeth is not crooked but it made one of my other bottom teeth crooked... Also my overbite is better but now my top jaw is misaligned with the lower jaw as in the midline is more left on the top, is this normal. My treatment will end in about one more month.

I have braces and my teeth are crooked, I am getting them off soon.?
You should talk to your orthodontist or get a new one if he/she didn't put the braces on correctly. Because if the braces made your bottom tooth crooked that is a problem. Maybe you will have to keep them on for a little while longer.
Reply:hopefully they will aline, but if not, go to a diff. orthodontist!!!
Reply:you are paying for the braces, do not let your orthodontist take them off if you arent satisfied, they work for you, not the other way around.
Reply:See a different ortho.

My teeth are better than they were before I had braces...but the bottoms are crooked (never were before) and the overbit is coming back! Gotta get braces again......Can't bear going through all that braces stuff again!
Reply:Definetly talk to your orthodontist. There are times that the teeth will only move so much,(sometimes midlines will be off a little if it means your bite fits well) however if you are still young, that shouldn't be a problem. Remember, he can't really take them off if you don't want to. He should be willing to work with you until you both reach a happy medium. I wouldn't go see another orthodontist unless things get ugly only cuz you will just be paying more.
Reply:its not normal - they shouldnt take them off if its still crooked - talk to your dentist/orthodontist/wutev and ask em wuzzup - maybe they plan on some other way of fixing your problem - i hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Lots of times a little tweaking happens the last few weeks. Make sure the orthodontist is aware...sometimes their assistants do most of the work...he may not have noticed. I'd plan on being in them longer than one more month. Sorry.

Will braces fix my teeth gaps?

I'm a 22 year old male, I I recently got braces (24-month treatment)... and my question is: Will braces eventually "close" my teeth gaps? (It's more than one gap) Or are braces just to correct dental alignment %26amp; straightness? My teeth aren't perfect but mostly they are "straight".. also, no overbite/crossbite/underbite.

Will braces fix my teeth gaps?
thier supossed to ! -- jas
Reply:Yes. I have braces and after a couple months, the big gap between my teeth were gone.
Reply:Yes it will close the gaps.
Reply:Yeah I have braces too and I used to have this big gap between my front two teeth and it closed but it took a little while though so be patient.
Reply:Of COurse, thats the soul purpose of braces right? lol dont worry the gap will go away each time you get them tighten and as time progresses! yay!
Reply:No.. Braces wont do that .... DUH EW 22 year old with metal braces... YUK Iam only 14 and I have the clear ceramic kind
Reply:they can correct gaps - but it depends on the forces at work here. sometimes the treatment is just for a period of time you fix things but forces being as they are move things away - so if you have to do it again understand that could happen, but it's better than not doing it. at all - ask your ortho.. they can tell you that.

Does braces behind your teeth work?

i have to get braces but i don't want a fence across my teeth and i heard you can get them behind your teeth i need to know if it works and if it's about the same price as braces across your teeth thanks

Does braces behind your teeth work?
i haven't heard of that before until i saw your question. i'm not sure if they work. but apparently they are more expensive than regular braces, and most orthodontists might not do them...

"Lingual dental braces. Lingual dental braces are placed on the inside of the teeth. They are the preferred option for people who want their braces to be truly invisible. The biggest drawback of lingual braces is that they can be uncomfortable and result in cuts and sores in your tongue. Speaking can be difficult at first too. "

"Lingual braces are placed behind your teeth, and are therefore virtually invisible to other people. Usually, lingual brackets are made of metal.

Orthodontists need special training to be able to treat patients with lingual braces. Therefore, not every orthodontist provides them. To find an orthodontist who provides lingual braces, ask your dentist or search Google for the phrase lingual braces along with the name of your state, country, or location. "
Reply:They really do, but if your teeth are reeeeally crooked, regular braces may be the way to go.
Reply:very uncomfortable and you will speak differently, it is hard to annunciate and roll your tongue etc. i would try clear ceramic before lingual braces they arent bad at all
Reply:I don't think you would be happy with the outcome. They can tear up your tongue and make you talk funny. Just go with the regular braces of invisalyn.

Braces and my teeth?

im getting braces in like 4 months and im kinda scared of what the pain is gonna be like, :P. does spacers or getting teeth puled hurt. (and i dont mean does your teeth hurt later, i mean when they DO IT). whats the worst thing about braces. does it hurt when they tighten them? just some1 please tell me all about it! please!

Braces and my teeth?
Spacers = when they put it in, it feels like you have food stuck between them. It doesn't hurt when they put them in, but once you start to bite food, it's sore for a week.

Pulling out tooth = They put a numbing agent around the area. All you feel is pressure. No pain. You will hear a snapping sound when the teeth comes out. =0

Braces = When they tighten the braces it hurts a lot. Once it's tight, you will feel normal but after 6 hours since you get them, there is a lot of pain as your teeth are moving.

I got mine 2 days ago, and the night of the braces, while i slept, my top teeth touched the bottom teeth slightly andit was so sore, it woke me up! I couldn't sleep because I kept biting myself awake. My sister experienced this too... The second day it's not as sore but still hurts when you eat stuff.
Reply:I got my braces in, haven't had a second tightening but the first time they put in the wire, they tightened it. A tugging feeling when they apply it and it hurts a little but once it's in it feels normal. Few hours later, there's huge pain! Report It

Reply:yea. the spacers did hurt. but the orthos tell you to take tylenol or pain killers a few hours before you go to ur appointment so it wouldn't hurt that much. if they don't, well take them a few hours before ur appointment anyways. it hurts because the rubber bands are shitfing ur teeth together in a short period of time so that they can put ur molar brace/crown thing around ur tooth.

honestly, for me, when i got braces, it didn't hurt as they said it would. but it's different for every person. it was a little tight, but after a few hours, i was fine. the WORST part about the experience is getting them on for the first time. ur teeth will hurt alot cuz ur not used to the tightness and all the metals in ur mouth. so youll be sensitive for about a week. stick up on A LOT of soups, jellos, apple sauce, or anything that doesn't require much chewing. if you think you can handle the chewing, [this may sound gross] but what i did was i ripped a piece of food, placed it in my mouth, and allowed the food to soak up my saliva so that itll be softer to chew.

but then you'll get used to it, nd it will be no big deal.

youll also get LOTS of cuts nd sores in ur mouth. but no worries. the orthos will give you packs of wax that you'll be able to place on ur brackets so they won't scrape ur cheeks.

hope this helps....^.^
Reply:When the ortho puts your spacers in, they feel a little weird, like you have food stuck in your teeth. You cant floss where the spacers are or else they will come out. Getting a tooth pulled doesnt hurt because they numb your gums before you get the injection to numb the tooth, so you wont even feel the needle go in, and you wont feel anything when the tooth is pulled. The worst thing about braces is that you cant chew gum or eat hard foods or candy (ex.-peanuts, jawbreakers etc). You have to brush 3 times a day and rinse with flouride rinse once a day. The braces will hurt for about a week after you get them on, and for about two days when you get them tightened. When you get the braces the braces put on it doesnt hurt, but after it does. Good luck with the braces, and if you have anymore questions feel free to email me.
Reply:the thing they use to keep your mouth open is called a cheek retractor. all it does is stop your cheeks from touching your teeth, because they need a dry surface to bond the brackets to.

they will also put a saliva ejector in your mouth, which sucks out the spit while your lying down. usually this only stays in while they do your back teeth, (pre molars and molars).and after that they will put cotton in your mouth, which isnt so bad.

all you have to remember is to breath through your nose, calm steady breaths.

its really just a mind over matter thing, nothing will get stuck in your throat, if this was the case there would be a lot less people getting braces...

the dentist doesnt want to kill you, they just want you to be as comfortable and relaxed as posible.

Instead of getting braces for my teeth should I just have surgery, cost??

Well, I see a lot of people with even worse teeth then mines and after going to the denist or whatever they have great looking teeth in no time or if its really bad it heals and looks good in a few months.

Can I get this done, I have a gap and me top teeth don't seem to be even when I more my jaw from side to side.

I'm 16 and really sensitive about the way my teeth looks. My parents couldn't afford braces for a long time because of my eyes and they constantly have to buy stuff for it to keep it healthy. Now I'm almost going to graduate and I don't know if I have time to wear braces. I know people from the 8th grade now in sophmore that still have braces.

What do you think the cost would be? Do you think I should do it?

Instead of getting braces for my teeth should I just have surgery, cost??
no, you are how you are, dont be so materialistic
Reply:i agree with lissa ,but i think the surgery may cost more than braces plus they have those invisible ones now
Reply:try getting braces, people will call you names like brace face and stuff but you just have to wear it for a year or so, it all worth it at the end. the coast is nothing for people that are in PCO but i think an average price is 4,000-9,000
Reply:Make your own braces. Be creative. Just get some very large rubber bands and go to it.

I've been employing do-it-yourself dentistry since I was a kid, ever since the dentist told me I'd have to live with little ridges on my bottom front teeth forever. So what did I do? I filed off those ridges with an emery board.

My friend didn't believe I'd done it and asked her dentist if that was possible and he said it would "likely cause some very serious problems" but it never did, and my teeth are much more attractive as an adult.

I don't doubt there can be some very serious consequences to DIY dentistry, so you know, use common sense!!! If the rubber bands are pulling at your teeth too much it probably isn't good.

Paying for unnecessary dental work is really a lot of hooha for people with too much money.

Anyone had their teeth extracted for braces?are your teeth normal after getting braces??

i'm getting 4 teeth extracted for braces and my dentist took the first 2 out on monday.he said my gaps will close up and i will have normal beautiful straight teeth after i have my braces taken out!Is this true?????can u still eat anything and everything?do your teeth look weird without them missing?will they ever be normal again????

Anyone had their teeth extracted for braces?are your teeth normal after getting braces??
Well i got one tooth extracted. I'm getting braces in two weeks but, I'm not worried because if the dentist did that its because you didn't have space in your mouth and he is going to move your teethes on a way that one of your teethes will replace the one that he took off. Don't worry he knows what he is doing. You are going to look great! :)

Good luck!
Reply:orthodontists know their stuff and ur teeth wil be normal :)
Reply:I was going to have my teeth extracted, but i've decided to use springs, because my parents were insisting hey were too nice to be taken out.

I asked the orthodontist the same thing, and he said that in 1 week or so, they'll heal because the teeth will move in those places, right? (that's why the extraction took place0 so you'll be fine.
Reply:yes most definatly i had braces for 4 whole years so you can imagin how bad they were and now i get people come up to me and tell me i have a nice smile!! so yes honestly truely its worth it
Reply:I had two teeth extracted before braces, but I had to have false ones in their places. Most people can't tell I have fake teeth, or that I've ever had any pulled. Braces do amazing things.
Reply:I had teethe extracted before I got braces also. My jaw and mouth are just too small for all the teeth to fit without crowding, so they took 2 out and I wore braces for 3 years and my teeth look perfectly normal. My braces were removed 13 years ago and my teeth would be completely straight except that I could not wear the retainers afterwards because they just could not fit comfortably in my mouth, no matter how small they made it.
Reply:I think you'll be just fine. I went through oral surgeory to have 3 of my wisdom teeth extracted and another tooth pulled before I had my braces put on. I'm about to have my braces taken off, and my teeth are looking great. Just trust your dentist. He wasn't trained for years in this field for nothing!
Reply:its so true i know how ur feeling right now and it may be painful but it's so worth it
Reply:Save all your teeth. The braces will close up the gaps but now you're missing YOUR perfectly good teeth.

Ortho's CAN work around them, so insist on keeping them!
Reply:The removal does help the teeth to have more space to move. I had two removed and after 4 years i have perfect teeth. Dont worry, the ortho knows what he is doing

Is there a way to close the gap in the front teeth WITHOUT braces?

i have got a gap between my front teeth and i really don't like it so i was wondering is there a way that i can close the gap without braces cos i don't want my mum to have to spend all her money on them i really don't mind if there is alot of pain

any suggestions anyone and have if you have used it before please tell me your experience thanks

Is there a way to close the gap in the front teeth WITHOUT braces?
It depends on how big the gap is. You could get bonding done but, it will need to be replaced over the course of your life. It also chips easily and so many dentists don't recommend it. There is also veneers but depending on how big the gap is you may not have this as an option because you wouldn't want to have two big front teeth that are not comparable to the size of the other teeth. (This will give you a chiclet look that no one finds asthetically pleasing.) Braces for this condition usually require a frenectomy( the removal of the small flap of skin under a lip). It's actually a muscle that has kept your teeth from being closed together in the front. Then of course the braces and retainer. I would really look into braces if there are other problems with your smile that are affecting you. Many dental offices have payment plans especially with orthodontia. Invisalign is for patients with minor subtlties they don't like about their teeth. It too is also costly. If it is really something that bothers you you could always babysit or work part time ( I assume you are underage) to help out your mother with the costs.
Reply:there are a few options out there. there is bonding, veneers, crowning and of course braces.

Reply:i just put a stick from a sucker in the middle of my teeth and no one notices try it
Reply:bonding, but its quite pricey as well
Reply:the dude that left a comment above me is a jerk.. dont mind him.. um i know that there is one procedure out there but it involves them basically filing your tooth about halfway up and replacing it with fake ones.. to make it sound simple... the best and cheapest way in my opinion is the good old braces...
Reply:They do cost a lot, that's for sure. I had to have braces for 5 years, and a different sort of "key" in the back because of my jaw and the shape of my teeth (a lot of Native Americans have "shovel teeth," it's a distinct shape that results in them looking squarer and having a small indentation in the back.) That sort of teeth have to have more pressure on them to move as well because the enamel is so strong and thick, they need heavier wires and more force. That all translates to one massive OW!

In your case, you might be able to get these little clear things that are made as a set--I forget what they're called, but you could get a set made for the top. They're cheaper I believe.
Reply:braces is the best thing... but try to speak to a dentist, they will tell you :)
Reply:even with braces it is hard to keep the gap closed. after they come off a retainer is necessary to keep the teeth close which gets really annoying and is uncomfortable to wear every night because the teeth are moving all the time. the dentist may be able to do a procedure that cuts the little piece of skin that goes from the front lip to the gums right at the middle where the gap is. if yours is prominent that may be one way to get the teeth closer together. it all depends on your mouth. once all of your teeth come in (wisdom teeth don't come until your 20s usually) they may move closer together on their own. if not you may just have to get used to the gap. i have one and don't like it most of the time but am used to it at this point.
Reply:some veneers can do it....once the tooth is prept they just add the coverings and fill in the gap
Reply:Your mom should have had this taken care of a long time ago.

If its a matter of money then there is social services will help you resolve the problem.

Don't wait too long as the problem will not go away and only make the problem harder to correct when you get older.

In this country people are judged by their smile or lack off.

I had a boss who had bad teeth and he did not raise in our company (and he was a good worker) because he had bad teeth and BO..the BO was very offensive and the ugly teeth make him lose out in a very big promotion. So get some help sooner then later.
Reply:yes go to your dentist they will fill in the gap models do it all the time it doesn't hurt its fast effective and no one will be able to tell u had the gap filled in at all i have seen this done allot of times its a miracle cure
Reply:those invisalign things work -ask your dentist about them
Reply:That is so nice of you to not want your mom to pay. (Check though: your insurance may cover braces or you may qualify for free/discounted braces, ask a doctor!)

-This will cost some money, but not nearly as much as braces. There is a "staple" the orthodontist/dentist can put on your front teeth, that can pull them together. Ask your dentist or whoever at your next check-up or appointment

-After brushing your teeth (so your gums are soft) gently push your teeth together, only do it for a few seconds, twice a day.

-I've heard taking a tight rubberband and strapping it across both your teeth helps, but I've never tried it.

These may make your teeth sore though.

Good luck!!! I hope one of these is a solution that works for you.
Reply:my friend had a similar problem, and she just has an elastic band around her four front teeth. This pulls the teeth closer together over time, but may not work if there is a major gap.
Reply:I straightened a front tooth of mine when I was young by putting steady pressure on it while I would be reading/watching tv. I don't remember how long it took, too long ago. Maybe you could take some dental floss and put it around your two front teeth and tighten it. Just an idea.
Reply:There are invisible braces, that are similar to a retainer. If you look it up online, I believe they're cheaper.
Reply:Yes, there is an operation to remove the piece of skin that is in between the two front teeth. I had it done many years ago. You could also consider a retainer that you can wear but if you have to take it out you can.You should look into a dental clinic that would help to defray the cost of any dental work. You might be able to ask a school nurse, if you go to school or speak to a dentist who might know of some free clinics. Good luck.
Reply:um go to dentist
Reply:No... there is "NO" other way! - Sorry!?
Reply:I dont believe so sorry sweetie

Braces and wisdom teeth?

Are you supposed to have your wisdom teeth taken out when you have braces? Either before you get them or after they're off?

Because I've had my braces off for almost 5 months and nobody has mentioned anything about wisdom teeth and I think one of them is out now. Is this going to be a problem?

Braces and wisdom teeth?
Honestly... if your having your 'wisdoms' surfacing now... ask your dentist. They could mess up your teeth again. BUT... then again, they may not. Best thing is to ask your dentist what he thinks.

Upper's or lowers.. which are they?

Also you should have retainers, now. WEAR THEM... they'll help keeping you in line, while those wisdoms are trying to come through.
Reply:no not really, because when i had my braces and my wisdom teeeth came in it didnt effect me and my dintist didnt say any thing like that
Reply:For me, I had to have my wisdom teeth removed before I had my braces. I didn't have enough room in my mouth for those and my regular teeth and my teeth be straight. If you have any real concerns, you could always just call up your orthodontist and ask. Might help ease your mind....
Reply:i just got my braces off and they said they're going to pull out my wisdom teeth in about a year
Reply:i got braces and then had my wisdom teeth out. i heard that the wisdom teeth can crowd ur teeth and screw up all the progress ur braces have made. i think they study when ur widom teeth will come in, then plan around that. if theyre coming in soon, then they might make u wait for braces. it depends. talk to ur orthodontist.
Reply:I had braces when I was 12. I had my wisdom teeth pulled when I was 22. I didn't get them pulled until I started feeling discomfort from them. It's no big deal..but a dentist will inform you when he/she thinks it's time to get them pulled.

How much soda did you drink to get stains on ur teeth after braces?

i want to know for all the people who drank HEAPS of soda, how many cans a day did you drink to get those squares on ur teeth after braces?? like 5 cans or something??

How much soda did you drink to get stains on ur teeth after braces?
i drank about 1 soda a day when I had braces, big mistake, I got little white stains on the corners of two teeth. I dont drink much soda anymore.
Reply:Uh I didn't get stains.... and I drank a lot of soda..... I also drank coffee too.... my mom only kept soda and coffee in the house... i was 14-17
Reply:This almost sounds like you WANT to get stains on your teeth lol.

5 cans??? You are talking about none fixed braces right?!

Then you shouldnt have any stains on your teeth!
Reply:I had braces for five years and didn't get a single stain, and I drank and ate what I wanted including soda and coffee.

Braces and wisdom teeth?

I have braces and I've recently noticed that my wisdom teeth are coming out. I can see two that are coming, both on the bottom jaw. What is going to happen? If it stays, do I have to keep my braces on for longer? If it goes, will it affect my brace time? I want to get rid of these stupid braces ASAP.

Braces and wisdom teeth?
It would be better to have them extracted. Even if they are perfectly aligned. They are too far back and very hard to keep clean.
Reply:well..., all wisdom teeth dont necessarily have to come out. if they come straight in then ur fine. ask ur dentist. and also see if he could extend ur braces to ur wisdom teeth. it depends if u have a small or big mouth. hope i helped and good luck! :)

Invisalign, or braces for crooked teeth. HELP NOW! answer within 1 week please!?

So i'm 13 i need braces well half the people in my school needs braces but anyway. Which is better invisalign or clear ceramic braces for crooken teeth? My bottom once are pretty minor not so bad. it looks like this http://www.public.iastate.edu/~lora/lora...

except the two teeth the "fang" and the one next to it (left) on the right side is misplaced. the "fang" sticks out and the one next to it is pushed back a bit. but thats it.

top teeth looks like this http://photobucket.com/mediadetail/?medi...

but less crooked.

So i was wondering if..... you could help. Oh and NONE of these pictures are me or OWNED by me.

Invisalign, or braces for crooked teeth. HELP NOW! answer within 1 week please!?
Braces are able to handle a much wider range of malocclusions. Also, being fixed on your teeth, you don't have to do anything to get results, unlike Invisalign where the onus is on you to use the plates regularly and properly. Modern braces are almost a fashion statement anyway, and you can always use clear brackets to make them less visible if you're self conscious.

Go the braces!
Reply:I actually went to an orthodontist 2 days ago to inquire about braces vs invisalign.

There are pros %26amp; conds to both of course.

with invisalign, it costs more, takes a while for them to get shipped to you and the results aren't guaranteed you may still need braces after. and not everbody is a candidate for theses either, especially if you need a lot of movement.

But with normal braces you can get the procilane brackets that blend with your teeth, so they dont look like tyical "train tracks"

they did the estimate and invisaligns would cost $6800 vs regular braces at $5600.

Personally, i think i'm gonna go with the normal, clear-bracket braces. I want guaranteed results!
Reply:I had braces like 4 years ago and i wanted Invisalign but my dentist said i couldn't because my "bite" was off so i had to go with the clear ceramic braces ... It really wasn't so bad and had them on for maybe 2 1/2 years. Just ask your dentist for tips on how to keep them clean and dont forget to wear your retainer afterwards!! your teeth will go back to the way it was if you dont wear it... I think right now is a great time to get them, so by the time you have take prom pics and High school graduating pics your teeth should look great by then.

Getting braces and pulling teeth!?

im getting my braces soon and i havent seen my orthadontist yet but my dentist said they might have to pull a few teeth cus of my overcrowdedness.

I have one tooth on the top witch is pushed back to were it looks like im missing a tooth and its pushing another tooth forward.ive never had a tooth pulled.does it hurt?how do they do it??

Getting braces and pulling teeth!?
Before i got my braces, the dentist pulled out 4 teeth but not at one time. He pulled out 2 every visit. He numbed an area on my gums where the tooth was near with a needle. The needle feels like a little pinch but it doesnt hurt. When he uses the plyers he just moves ur tooth side to side untill it comes out. You wont feel anything, you'll just ear a little bit of cracking. After the my teeth where removed, he just gave me some pain killers. You'll be just fine.
Reply:They pull your tooth out with a pair of plyerz. And it does hurt unless they numb your mouth before they pull the tooth out.
Reply:It doesnt hurt to bad i had like 3 pulled at once. Just ask for sweet air because you feel like your on drugs and dont really know whats going on. It feels like your sleeping.
Reply:for me they numbed the entire side of the mouth and they used a giant clam thingy and they jigle the tooth and pulled it out
Reply:usually it doesnt hurt, just feels kind of tense. the only thing that hurts is the novacane that they do before they pull your tooth, and its disgusting because for like 2 hours after you get out of the dentist it bleeds A LOT. they give you like a bunch of gause to use so it doesnt clot. take some motrin or advil before you go and you'll be fine=)
Reply:I had 8 teeth pulled when I got my braces. Yikes! that sounds like a lot doesn't it? They chose to pull my four bicuspids, that's the fourth tooth back from the center on each side top and bottom. And later they pulled my wisdom teeth or third molars as they came in. You know those pointy eye teeth? Are yours stuck way up high and can't come down right because of the tooth below them? Mine were. It looked terrible. But now all these years later I still have straight, white teeth.

To pull teeth they can either put you to sleep or else give you shots in your mouth to pull them. The shots do hurt a little, not a lot. And if they put you to sleep it is scary, but there is no pain. Either way, they can pull all the teeth they need to. You will not feel that either way they do it.

After the extra teeth are gone your orthodontist will give you little rubber bands stuck between your crowded teeth called spacers. They will stay in for about a week. Then you will get your bands. Over time your teeth will move into a nice position and be beautiful. Nobody will ever know that you have less teeth than some other people do. It won't ever show. And when it is all over, you will have a beautiful smile.

The most painful part of the whole braces process is actually the spacers. I know that sounds strange, but it is true. You can ask anyone who has had them. As they loosen and move the teeth they do ache. But it's not bad, just a dull ache that makes you not want to close your mouth.
Reply:I have braces, they had to pull out 2 of the teeth sitting next to my top front two. It doesn't hurt one bit, but I must say the novocain shots are a bit unnerving. I HATE needles, so naturally I was tense. It doesnt hurt, but the needle does go in deep. Not to mention I had to have 6 of them.

As for the teeth pulling, it just feels like they are pushing your tooth back and forth. Totally painless. I cant remember this too well, but I think it made a grinding noise when it finally came out. Anyways, that's it for me. Don't worry about it, it wasn't bad and took like 10 minutes to take out 2.

And by the by, it bleeds for the rest of the day, more or less a pinkish gummy substance.
Reply:With traditional orthodontics it is common practice to have teeth taken out. Take a closer look at people you know who have had premolars(bicuspids) taken out. You will notice that their mid face has a sunken in appearance. In saying that there are extreme cases where it is still necessary to remove teeth. Ask your orthodontist about functional orthodontics. Eg. Compare the smile of Prince William-narrow smile, sunken face. extraction orthodontics, Tiger Woods- broad smile -non extraction. Narrow arches have also shown in later years of life to cause breathing problems because the tongue gets pushed back and crowd the airway.

Braces- could my teeth be getting more crooked?

Hi, I have had my braces for a month (I am 36) Some teeth are straightening and I am excited to see the change.

But a couple teeth on my bottom are actually looking worse. It si normal for them to sometimes look worse before they get better? I am worried. My bottom center tooth is rising up taller than the rest and hurts if I hit it on my top teeth. It is not yet hooked into the wire.

I just hope I am progressing normally.

Braces- could my teeth be getting more crooked?
Yes, it is completely normal. (i'm 14, i have them too). My orthodontist said that you usually have to move the teeth to get them into the right position so they can settle there, which usually means ugly-looking teeth.
Reply:You should talk to the Orthodontist to be sure. However, when you get braces, your bite is also affected and they align your teeth to fix your bite, and if it was crowded it might be moving for this reason

And congrads for being an adult with braces, maybe you should post pics of your problem
Reply:Yeah, some teeth may have to be repositioned. I had a problem where I had an extra tooth that had grown in (it wasn't noticeable at all), the Dentist had to pull that tooth and let the space close. My teeth went through a variety of changes throughout the stages. Yes your teeth will be tender, but I am sure that within six months you will see a great difference, and by the time you get them off you will be like WOW!
Reply:I am 29 and have had braces on for 3wks now. My top teeth seem to be moving rather quickly and they all feel loose, my bottom tooth is doing the same thing. They are definitely more crooked than when I started.. I'm also excited with the fast progress, I've hated my teeth since I've been a teenager so I'm looking forward to this change. It's seems harder that I'm older and for the first week I was a little down about it but when I saw how fast things were moving I got excited... Good Luck,, I know what you are going through...

I have three or four small white spots on my teeth. my braces are coming off in two days, but i had this..?

...before i had the braces put on. my teeth are white, but the spots are even whiter. is there any way to get rid of them??

I have three or four small white spots on my teeth. my braces are coming off in two days, but i had this..?
You may have gotten those spots due to a high fever when they were forming or perhaps trauma or too much fluoride. You will probably need to cover over them with white fillings called composites or "bonding". Once your braces are off you should have a cleaning and let the hygienist or Dr. advise you. If they are not too much of a bother you might want to leave them alone because once you put a filling there you will need to replace them over the course of your life.

What are everybody's opinoin on braces? Do you like them or not? thnx.

Depends on how bad your teeth are. Somewhere between 6 months to a couple of years would be a good guess. Go to the orthodontist and get an evaluation.

Please help me by answering my question. What to do to my teeth about braces?

Can u give any idea about braces.B'coz my teeth r not straight. But my frend told to me that they look nice in such manner. What u think about that, should i need braces.

Please help me by answering my question. What to do to my teeth about braces?
It is hard to say but you should get an opinion from an Orthodontist. If your teeth are crowded or spaced, you need braces. However, if the shape of the teeth are not right with lot of chipping, wear but straight, you can get veneers. Hope that helps.
Reply:That depends. Does i bother you enough ?

Best to go to your dentist and see if they recommend braces for you.
Reply:better get them while you're still young because when you get past 20, your jaw stops growing and it will be hardeand longer r to re alighn your teeth.
Reply:It's true that it's better to get braces while you're younger. But if you're fine with the crooked teeth, then stick with it. But if the crooked teeth causes problems such as low self-esteem, difficulty in cleaning food stuck between your teeth and even breathing/articulation problems, then you'll probably wanna have braces.

As always, talk this over with a dentist. :)
Reply:u need to talk to ur dentist about that i was refered to someone in indianapolis and ended up going to someone in my hometown to get braces. i had very low self confidence so i really need to get braces and in a way i didnt want them but i have them to help me later in life so yea talk to ur dentist and get braces for the right reasons not just because everybody else wants them or has them

How much (average) does children's braces (teeth) cost?

How much (average) does children's braces (teeth) cost?
over $2000

Reply:mine cost about $5,000 for A two year set
Reply:About 2,000 because I got some I pay $265.00 a month for mines
Reply:It depends on the case. Some mild cases are only $1500-$2500. But more complex cases may cost $3000-$5000 or more! It all depends on how crooked the teeth are.
Reply:1. Check if a local childrens dentist takes Smile Saver or some other dental insurance. We have it and get everything done at less than half the regular price.

It only costs $21 per month and you have to wait 6 months before they can do any fillings, crowns, etc. But they can clean your teeth, take free Xrays, etc.

I am getting my braces off in about a month in the morning and I wanted to schedule a teeth cleaning appointment with my dentist for that same afternoon. Is this a bad idea? Will my teeth be too sensitive?

Thanks for your help!

Is there any way i can close the gap in my teeth without braces?

i have a gap in my front two teeth that is not that big or anything but it is still kind of bothering. i want braces and i have dental insurance but i dont want to waste money on braces if there is a way to close the gap without them.

Is there any way i can close the gap in my teeth without braces?
those night time mouth peices, i know someone who has one but it will take alot longer than braces will.

braces arnt so bad after the first week or 2
Reply:Always carry around a bag of those mini marshmallows. If you see someone you like coming toward you, stick one of the marshmallows in the gap.
Reply:See a cosmetic dentist. One who does a wide range of repairing teeth. Not a regular dentist... u want the latest greatest dentist or dental surgeon working on your teeth. There r veneers that cover your teeth and make a mouth appear perfect. Do some research, ck credentials, and get pricing. Then go to the one who is the best.
Reply:i don´t know how expensive these are, but here´s an option:

porcelain veneers:

"Porcelain veneers are ultra-thin shells of ceramic material, which are bonded to the front of teeth. This procedure requires little or no anesthesia, and can be the ideal choice for improving the appearance of the front teeth. Porcelain veneers are placed to mask discolorations, to brighten teeth, and to improve a smile. Highly resistant to permanent staining from coffee, tea, or even cigarette smoking, the wafer-thin porcelain veneers can achieve a tenacious bond to the tooth, resulting in an esthetically pleasing naturalness that is unsurpassed by other restorative options.

Patients with gaps between their front teeth or teeth that are chipped or worn may consider porcelain veneers. Generally, veneers will last for many years, and the technique has shown remarkable longevity when properly performed.

However, read this:

To prepare the teeth for the porcelain veneers, the teeth are lightly buffed to allow for the small added thickness of the veneer. Usually, about a half a millimeter of the tooth is removed, which may require a local anesthetic. At this appointment, a mold is taken of the teeth, which is sent to the laboratory for the fabrication of the veneers. This can take about one to two weeks. If the teeth are too unsightly a temporary veneer can be placed, at an additional cost.

Hope this helps!
Reply:An option other than veneers (which are a permanent commitment) is bonding. You can "try on" bonding and see if you really want to get rid of the gap. I had my front teeth bonded before getting veneers and loved it. To bond your teeth temporarily, the dentist roughened up my tooth with a sandpaper disc and then put composite in the space. Composite is the white colored filling they put in cavities. He told me if I was lucky it would last about a week. At the time it cost me about $150.00 (I had a pretty large gap)‚ and it lasted me about 3 weeks because I was very careful. It turned out my front teeth looked too big with just 2 of them bonded so I got 4 veneers. Try it you could like it.
Reply:The best thing would be porcelain veneers, you pay more at first but it is better. You can have bonding which is composite to build up teeth, composite is the tooth colored material, but they stain and need to be touched up and redone every couple of years, they are a fraction of the price, but long term you are better off with porcelain veneers
Reply:insert a toothpick between the two teeth and snap it off. Then take some liquid paper to touch up the color of the tooth pick. Voila!

Making teeth straighter after braces and wisdom teeth?

I had braces when I was a kid and had my wisdom teeth out as a teenager. I never had a retainer but the dentist gave me a bite appliance instead ( soft plastic, kind of like a mouth guard) the use for an hour a day in the year or so right after they came off and occasionally afterwards too. They looked great afterwards but now it seems like my front teeth stick out more than they did then, and the two teeth next to them on the right side are turning in just slightly. Would a retainer fix this? If anyone has experienced this or knows about dentistry I'd appreciate your insight, thanks.

Making teeth straighter after braces and wisdom teeth?
There are retainers and then there are "retainers." You are talking about actual tooth movement and not simply holding your teeth in place after finishing with braces. It is possible that you can achieve what you want with a retainer-like appliance. For this kind of service, which could take from a few months to over a year, you can expect to pay an appropriate fee. In my office, for one arch, this would range from $600 to as much as $1,000, depending on the complexity and length of treatment. I understand that you are just looking for an idea, but I don't want you to think you can get what you are looking for for $100-200 either.

Invisalign would probably work also, but at 3-to-4 times the cost.
Reply:It happens--I had the same thing as you described above--if your teeth have moved quite a bit, then you might want to try the Invisalign braces, they work very well.
Reply:yes, retainers.. or better yet consult your dentist..
Reply:I currently have braces, and I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed last summer. The intent in removing them is to provide space for the teeth, as part of the reason why teeth become crooked, or the bite becomes distorted, is the crowding that occurs overtime as teeth grow, and your jaw doesn't have the room to contain them all.

My guess is that your wisdom teeth were removed too late; since you had braces as a kid, your teeth were straightened then. However, as you grow, I guess they slowly began to conflict for space.

You need braces to actually take advantage of the new space that the wisdom teeth provides. In other words, they should have been removed before you had braces (though they are usually only removed in your teenage years).

Sorry if this is confusing. But basically I'm saying, you DO need some new straightener, either a retainer or braces, to fix your problem, and it should work because you've had your wisdom teeth removed.

Braces and four teeth pulled!!? PLEASE READ!?

Hi, i am getting braces in a couple of weeks and four teeth pulled. my ortho said get braces first then teeth pulled (2 on top and 2 on bottom) 1. has this happened to anyone? 2. does the braces hurt? 3. do getting teeth pulled hurt? do they numb it? HELP!!!??

Braces and four teeth pulled!!? PLEASE READ!?
When I had braces, I got 3 teeth pulled, all in one appointment. That in itself was a little much-I'd suggest dividing it into 2 appointments if you can. Braces don't really hurt-the doctor simply presses the silver brackets on each tooth and then a wire goes through the brackets. Once a month or so, he will tighten them, which can hurt a tiny bit, but it's no big deal. The initial strain only lasts for a few seconds and then you feel normal again.

Best of luck :)
Reply:Before you go to the dr. to get braces take advil . It does hurt but you'll get use to them after a while, and pulling out teeth does hurt, but it depends on the dr. if they numb your gum with novicain or not.
Reply:I had the EXACT same thing.

The braces hurt for the first few days, and the teeth don't hurt at all.
Reply:The braces only hurt when they tighten them and the teeth puling doesn't hurt.
Reply:calm down. i had braces and have gotten teeth pulled;; its not that bad

bfore getting braces take some advil, so it wont be as sore. and jsut eat soft food afterwards

they do numb you and trust me you dont feel a thing. the needle only feels liek a pinch and then you dont feel anything else
Reply:Of course they numb you. It isnt that bad getting teeth pulled. My son had 6 teeth pulled before he got his braces. Now he has them off and has a beautiful smile:) There will be some pain. But it isnt that bad, so no worries:)
Reply:yes it hurts -- bad.
Reply:no they wont hurt

i have had braces for 2 years now

bout to get them off =]

they dont numb it

but trust me it wont hurt when their putting it on

they will hurt the night u get them on

and u wont be able to eat anything for atleast 2 days

it will all be worth it when ur teeth are straight
Reply:I had the EXACT same procedure about 3 months ago.

I got my braces on, then about 3 or 4 weeks later I got 4 teeth pulled, 2 on top 2 on bottom, and that was a bit nerveracking/painful. It doesn't hurt during the pulling because yes, your mouth is numbed, but its very uncomfortable after. For about 3 days.

And yes, braces do hurt for at the most 1 week. Its really weird the first time because you dont expect your teeth to hurt and then like 2 hours later all of a sudden you bite on some food and its like holy Sh!t OWW!

lol

BUt dont you worry bowt a thing sweetie, you will be sooo happy once you see your teeth moving along after a few months after youir teeth are out.
Reply:1. Yeah this happened to me about 10 months ago and you will get 2 appointments, 2 teeth out for each appointment.

2. Braces will hurt alot for the first week so try to take some painkillers like paracetimol, I would suggest that you try eating soft foods something like porridge or soup when you get the braces.

3.You get a few injections in your mouth, anaesthic I think. The dentist will then wait for about 5 mins for the medication to settle in and then pull your teeth out. It's scary if you think about it but you wont feel anything other than pressure. I guarantee you wont feel any pain at all.
Reply:I can only offer help with the teeth pulling but not braces:

Ive had 3 teeth pulled (not wisdom) i just had a local anesthtic no sedation nothing and was fine,i had it all done in one vist and it lasted about 30 mins for all of the teeth to be taken out,

They will numb for the teeth pulling which is a small pinch

Felt slightly sore afterwards so took normal pankiller and was fine

Really hope it goes well,

Gd Luck

Braces with baby teeth?

Last year i got my braces taken off.

from what ive heard you only get braces once all your adult teeth have grown but ive only had 11 baby teeth come out and im absalutly possitive about it.so none of my molars have come out yet even though now that my braces are off.

my orthadontist did take exrays before and im sure he knew what he was doing but does this mean i might still loose teeth that will grow back skew???

Braces with baby teeth?
UR supposed to have gotten an extraction for those baby teeth by the dentist....My baby teeth was still hooked to my gums, and my adult teeth was coming out, so the baby teeth was crooked and they extracted it becuz i was getting braces.
Reply:I had two sets of braces--one for 2 years, the last for 6 mos.
Reply:it might, depends on how your back molars come in, they can come in and push the other teeth together, then again they might grow straight
Reply:No it will probaly wont.
Reply:Your either gonna get 2 sets of braces or your baby teeth taken out. =]

I have strep throat, dead taste buds, and irritated wisdom teeth plus braces!?

Well i have had strep throat for about 4 days went to the doctor got the prescripted amoxicillin(penicillin). My Throat soreness is going away thankfully.. and now the swelling of my tongue and lips have caused my braces i guess to rub against my tongue and lip causing canker sores on my lower lip and a dead taste bud on my tongue... on top of that my lower wisdom teeth are super irritated . Causing me to stop eating and drinking as much.... Is there anything i can do to relieve my tongue and wisdom teeth soon ?

I have strep throat, dead taste buds, and irritated wisdom teeth plus braces!?
I have had the same problem. Strep and braces. It hurts. I feel your pain. Some cold water or ice will relieve your tongue, and ambesol should take care of your wisdom teeth for a little at a time. Use some of that cushion goupe on your braces to keep them from rubbing on your cheeks. You can get it from your orthidontist. I always keep some just in case my braces give me a cut. Eventually you will want your wisdom teeth removed if you did'nt know that already. Feel better!
Reply:sorry, mate. sounds painful

try asprin and red bull- caffiene makes painkillers stronger
Reply:All I can say is---I'm Sorry--doesn't sound like fun
Reply:The pharmacy section of your store should have some gum soothing medications that are used for infants. They can really help with any mouth pain. It will get you through the rough times, until you can get to the dentist.
Reply:Gargle with salt %26amp; water (warmer than luke warm) then take excederin

I Know Everyone Is Different But If You've Had Braces, How Long Did It Take You Teeth To Get Used To Them?

I Just Got Braces Yesterday %26amp; My Teeth Are Still Sensative To Them. If You Can Remember How Long It Took You To Get Used To Brushing Your Teeth With Braces, It Might Help Too.

I Know Everyone Is Different But If You've Had Braces, How Long Did It Take You Teeth To Get Used To Them?
I've had mine for 7 months now, and i really HATED them at first. But after about 2 weeks it was totaly fine! I don't even notice them half the time now. It was sore to brush for about the first week, but after that its cool=) If you can't brush it properly just yet just do the best you can, and use an alchohol free mouthwash, thats what i did. Good Luck!=)
Reply:About a week or so. It feels really iratating or wierd when you first have them; trust. but after a couple of days to a week you wont notice them anymore. use a softer toothbrush to help and a sesitive toothpaste.

Hope it gets better

Reply:Ha! The tricky thing about your braces is that it seems as soon as they stop aching, you are going in for an adjustment. Okay, it's not that bad, but you will probably feel the pain for about a week. I suggest Tylenol. You will go through this everytime you go in for an adjustment.

Braces and my teeth....?

I am getting 4 teeth extractions after I get my braces put on and I was wondering what will I expect? They are bicuspids and I have to get them because my 2 baby teeth dont have anything growing under it so I have to get 2 bicuspids on the top to even it out. Anybody like me? Why do I have to get braces first? Anybody go throught this? What will it feel like the days after? Rate the pain factor 1-10. Please help! PLEASE REMEMBER: I GET BRACES FIRST THEN TEETH EXTRACTIONS!

God Bless and Merry Christmas!!!

Braces and my teeth....?
Well, i got ma braces first and then ma ortho told me i need ma teeth removed for space 8 months after i got braces.

But dont worry it wont pain alot, you will only have abit and half the time i think your teeth would be numb. so u wont feel a thing

No worries

JUST SMILE!!!!:D

Merry Christmas and god bless
Reply:The teeth extractions hurt more happening than after. Happening, it is about an 8 but after, a 2.
Reply:The extractions should be relatively painless because they usually give you pain pills till you're more healed up. A little ache, but not too bad. Getting the teeth out in the first place never hurt because of novacaine--I got 5 pulled out and then braces put on.

The braces hurt. There's no other way to put it. Keep plenty of very soft foods in the house, things that require no chewing like pudding, applesauce, and soup. Take over the counter pain meds every time they tighten them, and think how good your teeth will look for the rest of your life! You can do this.
Reply:my situation is similar to yours. i had gotten 4 teeth taken out. 2 on top, and 2 on bottom. each were premolars, which you generally take out for extraction when you have overcrowding in your mouth and need space to align your teeth.

i did get braces first as well before the extraction, the braces were only on my top 4 front teeth. you get them on so that theres already pressure on your teeth, as well when the extraction of the teeth are away, the teeth will be able to shift into the empty spaces left from the extractions. you will be in a long process to moving the teeth together from the empty gaps. Most-likely you will get power chains, power chains are long chain-like rubber bands wrapped around each bracket and are connecting each bracket, pulling all the teeth together to close the extraction spaces left, i can say power chains are rather more painful than getting the braces on itself.

but, the pain factor after extraction is not bad, maybe like a 2 or 3. i used tylenol, and it worked well. dont worry. you will bleed much the first few hours, but they will give you gauzes ( white absorbent-like cloths) to put in your mouth.

Does braces on the teeth worsen scoliosis?

I have a friend who is 14 years old and has scoliosis. I know this is common for teens who have grown a lot during puberty. My friend had a check up before receiving braces on the teeth, and there was nothing wrong with her back then. On her next check up after receiving the braces, the doctor found that her back had a severe curve of 40 degrees. She now has a back brace, but her back doctor says that he has had some patients whose spines have gotten worse after a recent tightening of braces. My friend's back is now 60 degrees despite wearing a tight brace 24/7; her braces have been tightened many times since her first fitting in a brace. Is there any medical proof or observations that braces can affect the severity of scoliosis?

Does braces on the teeth worsen scoliosis?
There cannot be any possible correlation between a back condition and braces on the teeth. The doctor is a crack if he said that. Some "back doctors" which are called Chiropractors are really far fetched while others are very good in their practice. You are feeding into very wrong information. This is completely not possible, I guarantee you. You're friend needs to see another doctor thats for sure!
Reply:I can not see any reason why orthodontia would affect your back. Somebody is pulling her leg.
Reply:I don't know if braces affects it, but I currently wear a back brace for Scoliosis - 24/7. My curve has recently worsened to the point that I might need surgery, for no apparent reason. I haven't got teeth braces - my doc says that Scolio. can get worse just because you're about to mature or while you are maturing. I'm 14 too and it's just a phase. If you are worried about your friend, tell her that it's probably not linked, but if it makes her feel better, why not???
Reply:well i have braces and scoliosis honestly i doubt her scolosis will get better unless she gets an operation because that is whats going on with me when she grows the curve will grow with her i havent got my braces tightened yet but i doubt it has anything to do with her back i dont wear my brace anymore because technaclly it doesnt help unless your younger and just growing i dont want to put her down but i have done research and whatever her dr says he's just sugar coating it because honestly unless she gets an operation theres no guarentee anything will get better or worse. [my curve doesnt get better or worse without a brace] but anyway good luck to your friend tell her she can email me if she wants to talk im chelsea lilmiss_princess5@yahoo.com

Reply:Hi,

(I'd email you about this but you aren't set up to get emails.)

This is super important.

Is your friend seeing a scoliosis specialist? If not, she needs to see one right now. Doctors that aren't scoliosis specialists don't have the training needed to treat scoliosis.

Your friend has a rapidly increasing curve. Since surgery is recommended for people with curves that measure greater than 45-50 degrees, your friend is already a surgery candidate. When you add in the speed in which her curve has developed, its extra important that she sees a scoliosis specialist.

Scoliosis is most likely to increase during the growth spurt that teens have. It sounds like this is what happened. It is just coinsedence that her oral braces happened at the same time.

Can someone explain to me in detail how to brush your teeth with braces?

hey i just got braces but my orthodontist didnt really explain that much well i dont remeber and i think im brushing my teeth wrong.

Can someone explain to me in detail how to brush your teeth with braces?
I had braces for 2 years. Just brush your teeth regular but be sure to floss daily. The plague will build up around the bracket. You dont want to get stains so make sure you floss good, brush daily, and mouthwash will help as well. Ask your dentist for floss threaders...they are these hook shapped pieces of plastic that you tie the floss onto and it helps you get the floss in between each bracket. Good Luck!!!
Reply:hi !!! its very very risky brushing your teeth with anything other than a toothbrush.why use braces????????????????? they may damage you????????/ stick to a toothbrush for teeth, and braces for trousers.
Reply:Brush normal but brush for longer and get your tounge really well and also you need to get next to you gum line. that really helps because getting a cavity while you have braces is a B(*%26amp;$ sorry for the launguge but it really hurts. also use mouth wash.
Reply:Well... I have braces right now and you have to be sure to brush your gums and the insides of your teeth. Flossing is important too... you need to floss in between each bracket. Mouthwash will also reach areas you cannot reach with your toothbrush. My orthodontist gave me a "christmas tree brush." It was small and shaped like a christmas tree. You could easily slide it in between each bracket and it really helps! Hope this helps!
Reply:Just brush normle, but make sure you don't brush hard. That will give you stains because the anmel will only be left where the brackets were.
Reply:i have braces and what i do is when i am brushing my top teeth i take the toothbrush and point the bristles down to get in between the wire and your tooth... while brushing th ebottem i point the bristles up from the bottom of my mouth.... hope it helps!!
