does smoking with braces cause your teeth to stain?

I knew a guy that smoked with his braces then when he had them of his teeth was white where his braces was and yellow everywhere else. Looked nasty! But I think he didn't take care of them properly. So it's possible it does.

Yes, I have a coworker who smoked with braces on. His Idaho Falls dentist advised him not to, but he did anyway and ended up with bright white spots on his teeth where his braces were.
