When are braces on your teeth considered absolutly nessasary?

Most of the time braces are considered cosmedic...for looks. Even when used to straighten teeth because of an overbite or something else, at what point does it become manditory that you need braces to live a healthy pain free life?

When are braces on your teeth considered absolutly nessasary?
Never, Teeth and the ability to chew are/is optional you can live with out them.

Reply:If the crowding is causing other dental health problems like impacted teeth. Many people (including myself) had to get them because their lower teeth are touching the roof of their mouth and causing damage. A friend of mine is actually going to have his jaw surgically lengthened to correct a similar (yet, obviously more severe) problem.
Reply:Very rarely... consider the teeth of most of the people on the planet, specially third world nations. Guaranteed they're not getting braces anytime soon. I would think only if messed up teeth are causing another issue that IS life-threatening.....
Reply:I would say absolutely necessary if your bite does not allow for chewing. Other than that, only when you feel you have to have them yourself. It is rare to feel they are NECESSARY. I see a lot of people who would benefit from them but they are a choice almost all of the time.
