Gap in my teeth w/ braces??

I am getting my braces off in exactly a week (well, that's what the ortho said). I have a gap between my canine tooth and the one in front of it. I do not wear elastics and I don't currently have a power chain... and the gap just started appearing a couple weeks ago... Will I still get my braces off? The gap is noticeable, but its not huge. Could the retainer fix it? Also, would pushing the two brackets together help?? I really want to get my braces off!

Thanks in advance

Gap in my teeth w/ braces??
I would recommend you put a call in to your Orthodontist before your next appointment, just to make sure that space is something he can or cannot work with. He may decide to put the power chains back on, but it is hard to know exactly what he might think. Some small movements can be done with retainers but I doubt he would want to have you start off that way. That space could become a problem with packing food in that area if you were to get the braces off and the space left "as is". Trying to push it closed wouldn't help, it would need the constant pressure of the power chain to keep it closed. Best of luck, hope it all works out for you
Reply:I'm sure they wouldn't take off your braces with a gap between your teeth. It doesn't take very long to close a gap, they just tighten those two a lot more. Does your ortho know about it? You don't want to have that after you get them off, because then there isn't much you can do about it afterward.
Reply:Yes. The retainers can take care of it, if worn and are adjusted as directed.
Reply:My son had the same thing happen

The ortho said it is there to give a tiny bit of shift room for the teeth.

My son no longer has a gap
Reply:OMG!! I have the same problem! i get my braces off on Tuesday, and I'm wondering the same thing as you. I had my braces for 2 yrs, and i'm psyched yet doubting I'll get them off now. I would say to bring it up before they take em off...that' what Ima do
